According to international diabetes news today, eating a diet rich in coconut oils could help to avoid diabetes . The oil could help to protect against insulin resistance in both muscles and fat .
A team of specialist international scientists found that the diet lowers accumulation of body fat. This therefore makes weight gain and higher blood sugar levels. The study was published in the journal Diabetes.
Researchers led by Dr. Nigel Turner of Garvan Institute of Medical Research compared insulin resistance and metabolism amongst mice. Dr. Turner was reported as saying: The medium chain fatty acids, such as those found in coconut oil, are interesting to us as they behave very differently to the fats normally found in our diets. Unlike the long chain fatty acids contained in animal fats, medium chain fatty acids are small enough to enter mitochondria – the cells energy burning powerhouses – directly, where they can then be converted to energy.”
