Tai Chi, one of the oldest forms of Chinese exercise and a gentle form of martial arts could be a useful way of preventing type 2 diabetes according to one expert. Those people with pre-diabetes, elevated blood glucose or metabolic syndrome could use Tai Chi as part of a diet and exercise routine to stave off type 2 diabetes .

To reach the conclusion, people at risk of diabetes took part in a tai chi based program. The participants experienced drops in blood pressure, weight and blood glucose levels . The classes were designed by a UQ (University of Queensland) researcher called Liu Xin.

Dr. Liu was reported as saying: "Like in designing or producing medication, we need to target the disease specifically. Different movements target different internal organs."
