The artificial pancreas is one of the holy grails of diabetes treatment for people with type 1 diabetes . Now, scientists say that an artificial pancreas could be available in as little as four years.
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation revealed a partnership with Johnson and Johnson insulin pump division, Animas Corp. to develop an artificial pancreas. The new device could combine existing insulin pump therapy with more advanced computer algorithms
The president and CEO of JDRF, Alan Lewis, reportedly commented: "The artificial pancreas is one of the largest projects we've ever invested in. We're optimistic that it will transform the way people with diabetes manage their blood sugar and reduce the risk of complications while we wait for a cure."
