A dementia charity has called for greater support from the government in examining the links between dementia and diabetes . The two diseases are thought to be closely linked, but the Alzheimer’s Society claims that more needs to be done in terms of research.
The call followed recent publication by Kings College London which showed that people with diabetes are three times more likely to develop dementia .
Neil Hunt, Chief Executive of The Alzheimer’s Society, reportedly commented: "There is a growing body of evidence linking the development of diabetes type II with an increased risk of dementia. Further research is now needed to determine how diabetes increases risk of Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia."
