According to a recent diabetes news report, a podiatrist undertaking novel type 2 diabetes research has received funding. During the next three years, Keith McCormick (a podiatrist and lecturer at the University of Southampton) will lead a study into whether fish oil could help to improve the health of those at risk of type 2 diabetes .
Mr. McCormick will closely examine the ability of the substance to protect and improve how the small blood vessels and nerves function. The grant has been awarded by leading diabetes charity Diabetes UK, who will provide almost £200,000 for the research.
The project, which will begin next month, could open up new diabetes prevention pathways. Diabetes UK campaigns to improve the lives of diabetes patients, and has a membership of over 160,000.
