The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), a leading charitable funder of type 1 diabetes research, has introduced a new free information pack for adults who suffer from type 1 diabetes, as well as for healthcare professionals treating the disease.
With research has shown that about half of all people diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in the UK are over the age of 16, the pack, called ‘Type 1 – The Basics’, will offer a range of information, guidance and tips for adults living with the condition and their families. The pack is intended to complement the charity’s other successful programme for children who have been newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
JDRF consulted with newly diagnosed adults and people who’ve lived with type 1 for a length, of time, as well as with many healthcare professionals, in putting together the information pack, which contains information leaflets, workplace factsheets and a pocket guide to help friends and family of patients.
Sarah Johnso, who is director of policy and communications at JDRF, commented “Developing type 1 diabetes can be very distressing, whether you are an adult or a child . It is essential that everyone gets the appropriate information to equip them to deal with this life changing diagnosis.”
She added “We hope this new pack will help adults better understand their condition, and give them hope that they can be part of a worldwide effort to cure it.”
