A seven-year-old girl, Phoebe Maddison of Groundwell in Wiltshire, has managed to raise over GBP300 for research into type 1 diabetes, and intends to carry on her fundraising efforts this weekend. Phoebe, who herself was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes three years ago, is raising money for the charity Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), which carries out research into a cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications.
She began her drive to help research efforts earlier this year, and is now looking to raise even more through a table top toy and cake sale. She commented "I want to raise this money to find a cure for me and other people with it."
Phoebe, who goes to St Catherine’s Primary School, added "I know that more children have my condition and I would love to be able to help them also." Her efforts follow that of her father, Antony, who has taken part in the Bristol 10k race for JDRF for the last couple of years, managing to raise around GBP800.
Sanjay Jagatia, who is development manager for JDRF in the South West, also said "It’s fantastic to see someone as young as Phoebe so passionate about supporting JDRF in our search for the cure to type 1 diabetes. We want to say a big thank you to Phoebe and her family for raising money to support our vital research into type 1 diabetes."
