A music festival dedicated to raising money for research into type 1 diabetes in children is set to take place in Wiltshire this weekend.
The event, called T1 on the Farm, will be held at Cholderton Rare Breeds Farm on Sunday 3 September. The money raised from the one-day family event will be split between Diabetes UK, JDRF and the pediatric diabetes team at Salisbury District Hospital.
Steph Duffy founded the event because she wanted to do something for all the charities which had supported her four-year-old daughter who was diagnosed last year with type 1 diabetes.
Speaking to the Salisbury Journal newspaper, she said: “All of the charities we will be supporting do great work raising awareness and researching into type 1 diabetes. While there is no current cure, the advances in medicine and strategies for coping with the condition are part of the vital work undertaken by these charities.”
The acts which have been lined up to play have waived their fee and will take to the stage for free. They include Stranded, tribute band Green Haze, acoustic singer/songwriter Tobiah, rock and pop band Off the Cuff.
Ms Duffy added: “I can’t think of a time when music hasn’t helped me to connect with something, to feel good, to feel better. Music is one of the ways forward. Our T1 Fest will aim to bring people together through great music.”
A range of activities for children will also take place throughout the day including face painting and arts and crafts. For the adults there is a Pimms tent and a hog roast.
Tickets are £10 per person and can be bought from Cholderton Rare Breeds Farm before, or if purchased on the day they are £12.50. Children aged under two can attend for free.
