Dr Richard Bernstein is no “ordinary diabetic”

Dr Richard Bernstein is anything but “an ordinary diabetic”, but that is how he described himself in his book Diabetes Solution, which helped shape the low-carb diet.

Bernstein himself has type 1 diabetes. He is now aged 81 and attributes his surpassing of the average life expectancy for type 1 diabetes to a low-carb diet and keeping good blood sugar control.

Diabetes type: Type 2

“I’ve been a type 2 diabetic for three years. I became a carer and my weight went right up. When I went to the doctors, they told me to watch my calories. I found the Low Carb Diet on the forum and thought I’d see what it was like. Within the first month I’d dropped a stone. I knew I had to keep it up. I went from 22 stone to 14! There’s no need to be hungry on the Low Carb diet- it’s just making the right choices.”
