Breaking news this month includes the launch of a specialist diabetes services booklet, and hopes for a new breath test for diabetes.

Also of interest for the diabetic community, the EU has approved a Novartis diabetes drug, and a new 24/7 diabetes sensor is on the market.

Lack of good quality diabetes care
Diabetic neuropathy is a major expense for employers

Only a third of people get all of the recommended monthly and annual diabetes tests, according to a recent national audit by the NHS Information Centre.

The latest figures indicate that the people least likely to get the care needed are those who need it most - the elderly and young children . Apparently, some four out of five diabetic children have levels of blood glucose elevated above normal levels.

Diabetes charcot foot complications becoming more common

Alzheimer’s could be a third form of diabetes One rare complication of diabetes, charcot foot, could be becoming more common.

Unfortunately, many diabetics are not diagnosed with charcot foot due to the rareness of the condition and the ease with which it is confused with standard diabetic neuropathy .
