Breaking news this month included the need to combine different sorts of exercise to fight diabetes, and the fact that both forms of diabetes are linked to hip fracture.

Also of interest for the diabetic community: vegetable fibre does fight diabetes, and diabetes amongst Chinese children has tripled in recent years.

According to research teams from the University of Warwick and University College London, having too much or too little sleep could lead to a greatly increased risk of fatal cardiovascular disease and diabetes. The team found that those who cut their sleeping down from the average of seven to just five hours every night faced a doubled risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

Fake diabetes testing strips on the marketFake diabetes testing strips on the market

Sophisticated fake diabetes testing strips are being sold online, prompting Johnson and Johnson to sue one medical-device distributor.

J&J, who operate Lifescan, a company supplying diabetes diagnostic and testing equipment, are trying to sue Alexander Vega for selling fake One-Touch diabetes test strips.

Diabetes drugs drive cost of disease

Diabetes drugs drive cost of disease According to a recent survey conducted in Greece, the cost of diabetic drugs Actos and Avandia have nearly tripled the overall expense of diabetic medicines to treat type 2 diabetics, over the past eight years.

The shocking findings, reported at the Laiko Hospital in Athens, saw a climb in diabetes drug cost from 23 to 79 euros, largely driven by the two controversial diabetes drugs.
