The Christmas period can be difficult for diabetics, with temptation in abundance and lots of distractions from normal, healthy diet and nutrition habits. For the millions of diabetic patients around the world, a festive season thick with calories can pose special challenges.
An American expert from the Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre has proposed several key tips to help diabetics get through the holiday season without blood sugar level problems. Philip Barnett, who is the director of the Anna and Max Webb and Family Diabetes Outpatient Treatment Center, reportedly commented: “The key to successfully navigating the holiday season is to remember that even though you can take a holiday, your diabetes never does.”
Barnett continued: “People with diabetes can enjoy the wonderful foods of the holiday season – only in moderation. Regular exercise and sensible daily meal planning should be especially important during the next few weeks.”
Barnett also offered tips such as a regular exercise routine, keeping topped up with small portions rather than gorging, eating vegetables and fruit, avoiding alcohol and not skipping meals.
