A new public support group is now being held for diabetics and their families, friends and carers. The event, scheduled for this Thursday, is part of the relaunch of a Diabetes UK voluntary support group for the diabetic population around Brighton .
The chairman of the group, Mr. Hawkey, reportedly commented: “It is about time somewhere as big as Brighton had a voluntary group that caters for the individual needs of people living with diabetes in and around the area. It will give those with the condition, as well as their families, friends, colleagues and carers, the chance to obtain vital support in their day-to-day lives, as well as a focus on fundraising and social events.”
There are thought to be over 2 million diabetics in the UK, a number that is steadily growing amongst climbing obesity. Diabetes in the UK is growing due to a culture of indolence and lack of exercise, and widespread unhealthy diets .
