The Guam Diabetes Association have claimed that a significant proportion of the population are suffering from type 2 diabetes, as much as 25 per cent. The disease, in this regio, is thought to largely have been caused by indolent lifestyle and poor diet .
The president of the Guam Diabetes Associatio, Carl Butler, is a type 2 diabetic . He reportedly commented: “Some people (with diabetes) think their life is over. That’s how I first felt. But it doesn’t have to be that way. You can still live a normal life, but you can’t continue eating Spam or fatty foods. You have to make daily changes.”
Now, according to recent reports, the GDA is to hold its eight annual conference in the Guam Hilto, at which diabetics will be taught how to make healthy changes. The aim will be to guide diabetics to live a fulfilling life whilst dealing with their condition.
The theme of the Guam conference is : “Can I really live with diabetes?”
