According to diabetes reports from India, the country widely regarded as the global diabetes hotspot is facing major healthcare threats from diabetes-related blindness . The conditions faces a huge uphill challenge due to the lack of awareness in India.
The Lions Club International Foundatio, which is running an awareness campaign in South India, was reported as commenting: “India is the world capital of diabetes . If not treated on time, the disease leads to loss of eyesight in the afflicted person.”
Dr. Ashok Mehta was also reported as commenting: “There are also chances of nerve damaging in a diabetic patient, which could also lead to blindness . LCIF’s primary concern is to save newborn babies of diabetic parents.”
The LCIF is involved with two hospitals in Southern India to raise awareness about diabetic retinopathy .
