According to diabetes news reports from Ghana, energy drinks could be having a significant influence on the high rate of diabetes diagnosis in the country. Concentrated carbohydrate energy beverages could increase one’s risk of developing type 2 diabetes, experts claimed.
Dr. Ofei, a medical doctor at the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, commented that high calories could increase the risk of being diagnosed with diabetes . Dr. Ofei spoke out about diabetic ketoacidosis amongst adults. He reportedly commented: “We are supposed to be eating wisely and properly. Instead of eating three times daily we could eat once, with all the essential nutrients in the diet .”
He reportedly commented: “We need to change our attitudes, towards modern emergency care in Ghana.” Diabetes in Africa is a huge and underestimated problem, with millions of undiagnosed diabetics across the continent.
