According to diabetes news, the cost of diabetes treatments has now exceeded any other therapy in primary care as more and more people are diagnosed with the condition. The NHS information Centre said that people with diabetes are being prescribed almost 600 million pounds of medicine every year.
The surge is partly down to an increasing number of young people developing type 2 diabetes, which is often associated with obesity . Doctors are attempting to improve long-term control of young type 2 diabetics and avoid complications .

A spokeswoman for the NHS was reported as saying: “Type 2 is increasing. We are seeing it in younger people, and because it is a progressive disease people are needing an increasing number of interventions as time goes by. For people who are struggling to control their type 2 diabetes it makes sense, but it is quite a big clinical change from five or ten years ago.”
