With Diabetes Week running from June 13 to June 19 this year, charity workers and the public are gearing up for a busy time. There are a huge amount of many activities taking place around the country, including sponsored walks and swims, exhibitions, tours, keepy uppy competitions, badge sales and awareness days.
The week is the charity Diabetes UK’s annual awareness and fundraising event, when they hope to raise GBP50,000 over the course of the week, which will be used to help improve the lives of those with the condition, as well as their families and friends.
They also aim to dispel the many myths surrounding diabetes and to raise awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle .
Celebrities such as Philip Schofield, Eamonn Holmes and Robin Cousins are supporting the event, and the chief executive of Diabetes UK, Douglas Smallwood, is also doing a coast-to-coast walk for the charity .
Diabetes UK hope that many people will join in the events as well as help the fundraising efforts on behalf of those who have the disease, and have offered a range of suggestions about getting involved – for details, visit their website.
