Cricketing legend and famous England all-rounder Ian Botham will open a new centre in Surrey offering specialist diabetes care . Botham has lead the appeal for the centre since 2003, and will officially open it on 20th May.
The centre will be located at St. Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey, and will be called the Stephanie Marks Diabetes Resource Centre . The centre has been built in the memory of local teenager Stephanie who died of type 1 diabetes complications aged just 17.
Director of local Trust, Dr. Mike Baxter, reportedly said: “The community needed a specialist diabetes centre where diabetes treatment, education and research could all be delivered to the ever-growing numbers of people who need our expert help. Out of Stephanie’s tragic death there has been incredible support for this project, and that will not only provide a lasting legacy in her name but will be a valuable asset for our patients of all ages, their relatives and carers.”
