Andrew Porter, whose brother Kevin died of a heart attack related to type 1 diabetes earlier this year, is to run the Swindon Half Marathon to raise money for charity.
Andrew has been training hard before the big race, which takes place next month, as he wants to raise as much money as possible for the health charity Diabetes UK in memory of his brother who died in March at only 37. He hopes to hit the target of GBP1,000 by the time he starts the race.
Andrew, of Cheney Manor, said “Kevin lived with diabetes most of his life and has always been my inspiration as a person. He was a keen runner from an early age, and I was always trying to keep up with him so I think it is only fitdiabetesting that I run the Swindon Half Marathon in memory of him.” Andrew will be supported during the race by his brother’s two daughters.
Zoe Steer, who is south west fundraising manager for Diabetes UK, commented “The funds Andrew raises will go a long way in helping us continue to support the 8,000 people diagnosed with diabetes in Swindo, and help us find the estimated 1,900 people in the area who are unaware they have type 2 diabetes.”
