A national conference set up to improve diabetes care was shortlisted in four categories at a leading awards ceremony.
Diabetes Professional Care (DPC) was launched in 2015 to encourage the sharing of knowledge, information and skills among healthcare professionals working in diabetes care.
The event takes place every November and last year became the leading conference of its kind with a record 3,235 people attending.
In recognition of the show’s success, it made the finals of the prestigious Exhibition News Awards (ENAs).
The organisers Healthcare Publishing &Events were shortlisted in the ‘Best Trade Show’ category and DPC’s Event Director was in the finalists for the ‘Best Event Director’ category. The ‘Hypo Hub’, a feature of the conference, was a finalist in the ‘Best Feature Area’ category and the company made the final line up for ‘Independent Organiser of the Year’.
While they did not pick up any winners’ trophies, the team was proud to have made the finals.
Maggie Meer, from Hampshire, has type 2 diabetes and founded the event in an attempt to raise the standards of diabetes care across the country.
She said: “DPC has gone from strength to strength since it was first held in 2015 and last year’s event was definitely bigger and better than ever.
“To be shortlisted for four categories at the ENAs was a huge honour and makes all the hard work worthwhile. Although we didn’t manage to wi, being a finalist was a triumph in itself. DPC provides an excellent platform for healthcare professionals to share good practice and to showcase innovation within the field of diabetes.”
The free-to-attend event is held at the Olympia London exhibition hall. Attendees watch presentations and take part in workshops, with subjects covered including reversing type 2 diabetes, ‘diabetes burnouts’ and childhood obesity strategy.
