This week is the second-ever Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Week, a campaign which addresses the importance of raising type 2 diabetes awareness and knowing how to prevent the condition developing.
Throughout the week we will be sharing the success of the diabetes community who have been able to put their prediabetes or type 2 diabetes into remission.
Prediabetes is when someone has higher than normal blood glucose levels, but not high enough to have a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. It is possible to get blood glucose levels back into a healthy range (prediabetes remission) which helps to prevent type 2 diabetes developing.
Jayne Welsh, 61, discovered in 2017 that her blood glucose levels were in the prediabetes range, and her weight had previously been fluctuating. She had recently retired and was leading a very active life, but couldn’t understand why she felt so lacklustre.
Eventually, after exploring research online, she joined Diabetes Digital Media’s multi-award-winning Low Carb Program and experienced a number of benefits.
“I then spent a lot of time researching, but with so much information to sift through and numerous conflicting topics, I joined the Low Carb Program to confirm my research and give me confidence in my decisions.
“I’ve managed to stabilise my weight loss whilst reducing my blood glucose levels. I’m no longer so tired and have much better quality of sleep. I feel fitter and healthier now than I have for years!”
Jayne is one of our Low Carb Champions and her journey has been inspiring for other community members, although there were some obstacles along the way.
“I learned that reducing carbohydrates is a case of trial and error and testing your blood glucose. I used to love Cadbury’s Crunchies! The sugar content in fruit was the most surprising thing that I discovered.”
Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Week is a great opportunity to reaffirm that type 2 diabetes and prediabetes can be prevented by eating a healthy, real-food diet and getting regular exercise. Stay tuned for more success stories throughout the week.
