Amanda’s second day

Well here I am again!!! Still waiting  for a reply from Almased so I’m still using the lower amount until I’m told otherwise!  I have noticed a couple of things today. Firstly I am really not hungry, which, if you knew me would be the last thing you would ever imagine would come out of my mouth. Secondly, I went shopping and usually I perform a secret service type of manoeuvre to avoid the beautiful chocolate aisle but today I walked down it and not one bar of chocolate shouted my name!

What is happening to me??

Jumped on the scales first thing to find I am already 1 pound lighter. First time in 20 years that the scales have read 10 stone something!!!!! Yay!!!

The shakes taste better today and I would go as far as saying I’ve enjoyed them and looked forward to drinking them.

I don’t think there has been any bad side effects and I also have more energy than usual. Due to both my diabetes and under active thyroid I usually feel extremely tired round about 4 pm. If it’s my day off from work I’m usually having as little nap but not today so it’s been a win win situation! Losing weight and not tired.

I haven’t had headaches like a few others have reported and no stomach cramps!

All in all the last two days have been great!

Have a great evening!

Amanda’s First Day on Almased

Good Morning fellow diabetics!!!! I’m doing the fourteen day Almased trial and yesterday was my first day. First let me tell you a little about myself and my battle with diabetes. I was diagnosed in November 2011 and I am sure Cadbury’s shares fell overnight!!! I am a chocoholic so being told that I was diabetic was an especially cruel blow. I have struggled with my weight for a good few decades, but help came when I was diagnosed with an under active thyroid in 2007. At my heaviest I weighed 14 stone. With my thyroid medication I didn’t diet but my weight gradually went down to 11 stone which is we’re I have stayed for the last few years. I’m only 5ft 3 ” so ideally need to lose some more.  I am a naughty diabetic and after my initial diagnosis I was exceptionally good and managed to get my blood sugar reading down to 7.8 in my first 3 months. However I do tend to be a little obsessive/compulsive and I had got myself a blood glucose monitor. My poor fingers, those first few months. I would test before breakfast, after breakfast, before lunch, after lunch, before dinner, after dinner and before bed. Oh ok and a few more in between!!!!  The doctor was very pleased with my blood glucose level in those first months but would not prescribe the testing strips so since then I’ve pretty much been an “out of sight out of mind” kind of girl! However my current diabetic nurse has listened to me and has prescribed the strips so I have been a little Angel for the last seven weeks.

So……on to Almased!!

Day 1…… Starting weight – 11 stone

Age 44 and a half!

Mental state- optimistic!

I go to make my first shake and already confused! The booklet says I need to mix 300-350ml milk with 50g of powder but the leaflet inside the tub says because of my height I should mix 200ml milk with 40g of powder. I go for the lower amount which is so unlike me!! I’m a quantity kinda girl! Email the contact from Almased and await a reply.

Lunch time……same again!

Dinner time…… same again!!!

Surprisingly I haven’t felt hungry! I usually eat because it’s my favourite hobby!!!  The shake itself is not bad at all! It does have a slight powdery taste but it’s not unpleasant. They sent a great little shaker with a metal ball in it,works like a whisk! I love it!!!

Day 2…… Woke up after 8 hours sleep. Unusual for me when I am off work. I have taken annual leave for two weeks which has coincided with the trial. Shock, horror …I’m not hungry! Jump on the scales, told you I was obsessive/compulsive! 10 stone 13 pounds Woohoo. Still waiting for a reply from my email to Almased so I make my first shake of the day with the lower amount. It tastes better today or is it the pound I have lost telling my brain that it tastes good to keep me going! I don’t care either way!

I made the vegetable broth yesterday! Only had one bowl as it tastes of nothing and I had to add lots of salt & pepper.

Roll on lunchtime! Can’t wait to jump on the scales in the morning!

Day 3

Woke up at 6am with a blood sugar level of 14.3, even though I bolused for the food I  had to eat last night to stave off the ketones…..still feeling pretty rubbish but hey ho on to my next shake!

Anyone have any thoughts on why my sugars are running so high, after my shake this morning I’ve been running dangerously high as in 24-26!!!

Obviously not enjoying this experience at all and just hoping it gets better when I start introducing food again tomorrow.

Will post again at the end of the day to say how rest of the day goes………..

Day 2

Posthumous post to finish off what happened yesterday………

Not a good day at all – my sugars ran high for most of the day – is anyone else having similar experience? By 9pm lastnight my sugars had settled – well it was 10.5 but blood ketones were sitting at 0.9!!! I felt awful, head was pounding, little energy and I felt really sick, was scared to go to sleep with that level of ketones present so had to eat an apple and packet of crisps (being the only carb I had available at home!) to counteract the ketones plus another half litre of water to flush them out…..so, as you can imagine was up half the night peeing!!

Ketones!!!

Anyone had ketones whilst doing this?? Was sitting at 0.3 lastnight, back down to 0.2 this morning….feel ok, well sore head but think that’s lack of food!

Day 1 update….

So I’ve had 2 shakes (which don’t taste anywhere near as bad as I’d expected, must confess to using almond milk to make it though & added half a dozen small strawberries and some ice) and 1.5 litres of water – have to say I’m feeling pretty awful right now, my head is absolutely bustin and I’m really hungry 🙁

However, I’m determined to keep going with it so will just keep hoping this is a phase and I’ll start to feel the benefits soon…..

DAY 1

The time has finally come…..I’m going with Almond Milk to make my first shake, will update in a wee while to give my opinion……….have to say I’m not looking forward to it after reading what other peeps have to say about it! Ah well, here goes nothing………

Countdown is on…..

….slightly worried about starting this!

So, I’ve had the Almased bundle for around 3 weeks now and haven’t even opened it – what this has done for me is made me recognise how busy I am and therefore how little time I actually take out to focus on my health and diabetes (type 1). Having cleared the ‘decks’ for this weekend I plan to start the 14-day trial on Saturday…..having read some of your blogs it’s pretty obvious the downside is the taste, so just wondering what you all found to help with this and does anyone have any other advice before I begin at the weekend?? Have bought all my vitamins to supplement my diet as well 🙂

....slightly worried about starting this!

Don’t like the taste, but i LOVE the results x

Got to say guys, I really don’t like the taste of Almased, but have been having a shake for Breakfast, Salad for Dinner, and a healthy Tea. I have not had the shakes more than twice on any day, but I have lost 9lbs in 3 weeks. I find it hard to lose weight, as I have an underactive thyroid, and really struggle with it, but Almased actually kept me from feeling hungry, and I would gladly keep using this. Unfortunately, I only have enough left for maybe 3 more shakes, and can’t seem to find it for sale anywhere, apart from on Ebay, where they are selling for about £20 a tin. If anyone wants to send me their’s that have not opened, I will gladly pay for the postage and take it off your hands. BIG THUMBS UP FROM ME!!

first 3 days

First day: I was experiencing severe headache, stomach was churning and making noises all day, i felt lethargic, bad tempered and i ended up having fruit/low fat yogurt before bed to help me sleep. Second day was sunday, being with the whole family, which means food, food, food!! This was upsetting and i nibbled at some meat but no carbs. Craving eased and i felt i could cope, drinks help for very short period but ive started experiencing acid reflux. Not too bad but long day. Day three, I am feeling hungry, head throbbing, quick tempered, feel physically and mentally crap. Stress level higher which makes me more hungry as i ended up inhaling fridge late at night. Slept well knowing i was full. My 4th day, at work since 8.30am – 6.30pm. Have no energy and wanting junk today. Drinks not helping to fill me. Not a good day.
