The mylife Pura comes from Swiss-based company Ypsomed which also brought the Omnipod insulin pump to the UK.

An alternative version of the mylife Pura is the Pura X, which has exactly the same technology as the Pura, just with a different colour scheme.

The mylife Pura meets the 2013 ISO standards for blood glucose meter accuracy, achieving 99.5% of results within the specified accuracy targets.

Pura: autocoding

Autocoding technology allows you to test your blood glucose without entering a code. The meter switches on automatically when a new test strip is clicked into position – and for a change, you put this in sideways.

Illuminated display

An extra-large illuminated display with large digits ensures that the screen is extremely easy to read in all circumstances, but maybe even better for children or the hard-of-sight, while the various functions are very simple to operate using the 3-button control system.

Accuracy

The Pura’s accuracy was demonstrated by being the leading in the test category for low sugar levels in a study in which four established blood glucose meters and the mylife Pura were compared on the basis of the defined assessment criteria.

Softlance lancing device

It comes with a Softlance lancing device featuring horizontal and vertical vibration reduction ensures kind and gentle lancet control. The lancet can also be changed safely and easily as the hygienic ejection mechanism means that you can remove the lancet without touching it.

Silicon skins

Now, if white is not your colour, then there’s a choice of 6 others through flexible silicon covers that protect against damage, provide a good grip and are skid-resistant too, and there’s a series of 9 stickers you can also choose from to accessories your meter should you wish to.

Analysis software

The mylife Pura is compatible with the following blood glucose management software:

Diabass

mylife SiDiary

The CareSens N blood glucose monitor is designed to be easy to…

The CareSens N blood glucose monitor is designed to be easy to use; requiring only a small sample of blood, no coding required for the test strips and an easy to read display screen.

The CareSens N meets and exceeds the 2013 ISO standards for blood glucose meter accuracy with 99% of results meeting the 2013 accuracy criteria.

Sample loading – avoid spoiled tests

There’s also a confirmation window on the test strip for visual check of sample loading. Through this, you can avoid a ‘spoiled’ test or test strip.

The CareSens N Blood Glucose Monitor offers easy and accurate testing and there’s no coding required.

You can use blood samples taken your fingertip, palm or forearm. A small sample of blood is required and your result is displayed in less than 5 seconds.

The CareSens N takes CareSens N Blood Glucose Testing Strips.

Thin lancets and 1,000 test memory

Using the latest technology, CareSens N monitors use a highly specific glucose oxidase reagent that will only measure glucose.

Also available are CareSens N thin lancets (only 0.36mm), which minimize pain.

1,000 test results can be stored in the memory of the meter, and this data may be downloaded to a personal computer via a USB cable.

Meal markers can be attached to tests to show which tests were pre-meal tests and which were post-meal tests.

The CareSens N meter features a large display and no-skid rubber pads on the meter, so it’s easy to handle.

You can set up to four test reminders, three of which can be timed and one post meal test reminders.

The SD Codefree blood glucose meter has become popular since early 2012…

The SD Codefree blood glucose meter has become popular since early 2012 amongst people with diabetes who need to buy their own test strips on account of the test strips being relatively cheap.

The SD Codefree is produced by SD Biosensor Inc, a diagnostic company from South Korea.

The meter meets the 2013 ISO standards for blood glucose meter accuracy.

Basic features

The SD Codefree features a large screen, the meter is easy to use and it has memory capacity to store up to 500 readings.

The test strips require a 0.9 microlitre sample of blood which is a relatively small droplet of blood.

Averages, markers and SD Codefree software

The meter provides 7, 14 and 30 day averages, allows you to include meal markers before taking readings and includes a warning if a low blood glucose result is recorded.

Readings can be transferred to computer to be analysed using SD Diabetes Management Software.

The software can be downloaded from the SD Biosensor website.

You will also need the SD Software Communication cable which can be requested directly from SD Biosensor.

What’s in the box?

The SD Codefree comprises:

1 x SD Codefree Blood Glucose Meter in mmol/L

1 x Adaptable Lancing Device offering 10 different comfort settings

10 x Blood Glucose Test Strips

The MyStar Extra blood glucose meter from Sanofi brings a unique feature…

The MyStar Extra blood glucose meter from Sanofi brings a unique feature in that it is able to provide an HbA1c estimate which is useful for keeping track of your long term blood glucose control between having your clinical HbA1c tests.

The meter also indicates your 3 day fasting trend and complies with the 2013 ISO standards for blood glucose meter accuracy.

The features provided by the MyStar Extra make it a good choice, in particular, for people with type 2 diabetes on insulin.

HbA1c estimate

The HbA1c estimate on the MyStar Extra uses meal markers as well as how closely tests were taken together to provide an even more accurate estimate of HbA1c than you would get from converting an average on your meter to an HbA1c level

Whilst the HbA1c estimate is not intended to replace the test you get from your clinic, it can be a helpful motivation tool between getting your actual HbA1c results.

Fasting trends

The MyStar Extra also provides a 3 day fasting trend indicator that will show whether your fasting blood glucose levels are rising or decreasing.

To determine this, the meter compares your fasting results over the past 3 days with the previous 7 days.

For people with type 2 diabetes on basal insulin, the fasting trends can be used to help assess whether insulin needs adjusting It can also be used to assess whether other aspects of therapy, such as diet and exercise are leading to improvements in your fasting blood glucose levels.

iBGStar is the first blood glucose meter to integrate blood glucose testing…

iBGStar is the first blood glucose meter to integrate blood glucose testing with a smartphone. From Sanofi, the iBGStar is compatible with iPhone.

This blood glucose meter takes blood glucose monitoring to the next level, allowing you to manage your diabetes any time, anywhere.

iBGStar and iOS

The iBGStar is compatible with Apple’s iPhone and the iPod Touch, allowing you to easily view and analyse results on the go and enabling you to use your iPhone or iPod Touch as your blood glucose diary.

The only requirement of the smartphone is that it must be running at least iOS5.

The iBGStar is not compatible with Android or smartphones running iOS4 or earlier operating systems.

Accurate and convenient

The iBGStar is an accurate meter that gives plasma equivalent readings, requiring only a small droplet of blood (0.5 microlitres).

The meter requires no battery changes and is instead recharged similarly to a phone.

The iBGStar uses BGStar test strips which require no coding.

One of the smallest blood glucose meters

The iBGStar is one of the very smallest blood glucose meters on the market, measuring less than 6cm long and less than 3cm wide.

The style of the iBGStar matches that of an iPhone or iPod Touch.

You could easily be forgiven for not having any idea that it’s actually a blood glucose meter that you’re plugging into your phone.

iBGStar Diabetes Manager App

The iBGStar’s app can be downloaded from the Apple App store and just needs syncing with iTunes to get it up and running.

The software application that you download to your iPhone or iPod Touch is called Diabetes Manager App. This is a free app and gives a variety of log tables, graphs, averages (including custom averages) and standard deviations.

Each time the meter is connected and the Diabetes Manager App is accessed, the iBGStar syncs with your iPhone or iPod Touch and automatically transfers any new readings to the Diabetes Manager App’s log of test readings.

The BGStar from Sanofi is designed to make blood glucose testing simple…

The BGStar from Sanofi is designed to make blood glucose testing simple whilst offering a range of additional features for when you’re comfortable with the basics.

The BGStar is an intuitive to use meter with a design that won’t look out of place next to a mobile phone – with it’s sister meter, the iBGStar plugging into an iPhone to give your blood glucose test results.

Simple blood glucose testing

Being diagnosed with diabetes and starting to test blood glucose involves a learning curve. The BGStar is designed to help you take that learning at your own pace, making blood glucose testing and understanding the results easy.

The Accu-Chek Mobile was first introduced in 2010 and provided users with…

The Accu-Chek Mobile was first introduced in 2010 and provided users with the chance to take a blood test without needing to hold a set of additional loose supplies.

In 2012, the Accu-Chek Mobile was updated to be slimmer and even easier to use – and has several awards to its name to boot.

The meter also meets the 2013 ISO standards for blood glucose meter accuracy.

Anyone who blood tests is familiar with having to carry not only the meter itself, but a lancing device, lancets and a pot of sensors but with this machine Accu-chek makes testing a much more “mobile” experience (hence the name).

This enables you to leave the house with just your Accu-Chek Mobile in your jacket pocket or bag and have everything you need to monitor your blood glucose levels.

Additional features include:

7, 14, 30 and 90 day averages

Meal tags for marking ‘before meal’, ‘after meal’ or ‘other’ tests

Up to 7 standard reminder alarms can be set up to regularly remind you to test

Up to 3 ‘once only’ reminders can also be set up

Accu-Chek FastClix

Incorporating a detachable FastClix lancing device (which operates using a drum of six lancets, each of which retracts back into the mechanism, therefore making accidental finger pricks impossible).

As well as being safer, it is quicker too, as the lancet drum is replaced after 6 tests rather than after every test.

Using unique technology, the blood glucose testing is done on a strip of reactive tape on a cassette.

Blood glucose tests can be performed in just 4 simple tests:

Open the cover

Take a blood sample

Apply blood to the test sensor

Read the result and close the cover

Removable cassettes

Each removable cassette can handle 50 tests and tells you how many tests are left after each time you turn on and turn off the meter.

You can leave the house just carrying the machine and nothing else.

Cassettes and Fastclix lancet drums are available on prescription.

Winner of the Red Dot Design Award

The Accu-Chek Mobile has won two consecutive Red Dot Design awards, in 2011 and 2012, for its innovative and intuitive design and overall quality.

The Accu-Chek Compact Plus is a blood glucose meter that offers greater…

The Accu-Chek Compact Plus is a blood glucose meter that offers greater ease of testing for people who need to perform blood glucose tests when out and about.

The meter requires a relatively large drop of blood by modern standards. For a meter that requires a smaller quantity of blood consider the Accu-Chek Mobile.

Features

The key features of the Accu-Chek Compact Plus are those that allow the meter to be used more easily when out and about.

Whilst many meters are difficult to use without having a free flat surface, the features of the Compact Plus mean that you can perform a test even when a flat surface is not available.

17 strips per drum

The meter contains a drum of 17 test strips which means that a test strip appears at the press of a button. This eliminates the need for removing test strips from a vial, which can be awkward in situations such as when out shopping or otherwise needing to stand to do a test.

Additionally, the Compact Plus has a lancing device, the Accu-Chek Softclix, attached to the side of the meter that can therefore be used without needing to put the meter down to prick your finger.

The Accu-Chek Softclix has 11 depth settings and can also be detached from the meter when preferred.

The Accu-Chek Aviva is a blood glucose meter with a user-friendly design.…

The Accu-Chek Aviva is a blood glucose meter with a user-friendly design. Lightweight and slender, the Accu-Chek Aviva is a discreet and comfortable choice for people with diabetes who wish to check blood glucose levels.

Now there is a smaller successor to the Accu-Chek Aviva, the Accu-Chek Aviva Nano.

The Accu-Chek Aviva has easy-to-hold rubber grips, and requires just a small blood sample to offer an accurate reading. Accu-Chek Aviva test strips are used to return a fast and reliable blood glucose level.

If you have an older model of the Accu-Chek Aviva (which had a black and silver appearance), you can upgrade to a newer meter by contacting Roche Diabetes Care.

The newest version of the Accu-Chek Aviva passes the 2013 ISO standards for blood glucose meter accuracy.

Accu-Chek Aviva Test reminders

This blood glucose meter also includes test reminders.

You can set four separate reminders for different times to aid in remembering when to test blood glucose.

The Accu-Chek Aviva meter also includes a battery backup – this is a small additional battery that holds time and memory for 72 hours if the battery is removed or runs out of power.

FastClix lancing device

The Accu-Chek Aviva system now comes with the Accu-Chek FastClix finger pricker. Lancets are housed in a convenient 6 lancet drum, therefore changing of lancets is simple, comfortable and without the risk of accidental finger pricks when discarding the lancets.

Once all 6 lancets have been used the drum can be disposed of with regular household waste.

The newest version of the Accu-Chek Active meets the 2013 ISO standards for blood glucose meter accuracy.
