Dr Chris Gillespie
Dr Chris Gillespie is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist working at Royal Derby Hospital. He began his doctoral research in diabetes at the Northampton General Hospital in 1980 working with Dr Charles Fox.
This led to a long-term commitment to person-centred clinical work across the life span in diabetes centres in Northampton and Derby. He played a leading role in the design and delivery of a skills-based staff education programme based at Knuston Hall, Northants, which continues to develop approaches to person centred care within a multidisciplinary context.
Dr Gillespie has also worked closely with Dr Charles Fox for the Institute of Diabetes for Older People in developing an education programme for staff working in care homes, both residential and nursing, with the aim of improving diabetes care in the presence of dementia. The use of an evidence based person-centred model where old people are valued, attracted favourable feedback from staff and has resulted in positive changes in clinical practice.
