Dr David Unwin
Dr David Unwin has been a partner at the Norwood surgery in Southport since 1986 and a GP Trainer since 1992. He was elected to Fellowship of the Royal College of General Practice for his work in using hope as part of the consultation.
More recently, the Fellowship of the Royal College of General Practice has David both a RCGP National Champion for Collaborative Care and Support Planning in Obesity and Diabetes and RCGP Clinical Expert in Diabetes.
He has published papers in:

- Journal of Insulin Resistance
His work has been featured on BBC, C4 and ITV television, The Times, New Scientist and The Telegraph.
David was a finalist in the 2014 BMJ National Awards for Diabetes Team of the Year due to an innovative and collaborative approach to using a low-carb diet in type 2 diabetes, and mixing this with a positive, solution-focused psychological approach. In December 2015, David was awarded the NHS North West Innovator of the Year, and then in 2016 won the NHS National Innovator of the year competition.
Dr Unwin is keen that we weigh up the pros and cons of drugs and lifestyle choices properly before making choices.
