Diabetes 2 and no testing strips!

Hi. I've just joined this forum. I'm 57 years old and take two 500mg metformin twice a day to try and control my diabetes. Only problem is the doctor won't give me any testing strips. When I had them my BG was 5.5 on average. Last blood tests was 7.6. So how am I supposed to keep it under...
