Disturbing findings here.

Perhaps says we should all push as hard as we can for our regular check-ups.

I have to say, I live on a road where the residents are generally 'of an age'. 5 of them, that I know of, are waiting for non-diabetes tests, test results, treatment, consultations, operations.
All of them are aged 75+. It really sticks in my craw that these folk, with limited time let's face it, are being short-changed.

Actually, my wife was quite fortunate. She had a knee scan and was seen by a specialist pretty quickly. Mind you, that appointment was in a mobile truck in a messy car park near a less than wholesome town centre. Third world stuff really.
My Dad, who was a consultant physician, before he died many years ago, would have been horrified I think.

I think we do need to be pushy and get over the mentality of 'protect the NHS' other than of course turning up for our appointments of course!
I've had my last appointment pushed back to September 22 so that means I've had less than 5 minutes 'care' in the last 18 months I think? I am going to get my own foot check and I can interpret my blood test results (I hope).
I can only say that the local GP surgery for whom we are running a low carb support group, recognises that a lot of type 2 s got diagnosed over the phone during the last 2 years and do feel unsupported which is why they've allowed us in to run a course. reasons why this care isn't being delivered by the state? Locally it seems there are not enough DSNs to run courses or spend enough time to help patients make useful changes. This has always been the case to my knowledge but has of course been exacerbated by the focus on covid in the past 2 years even though it seems obvious to me that helping people get better metabolic health will help them deal better with viruses.

And then there are those like me who got diagnosed over the phone and then a very delayed second appointment by which time I had come seriously low carb and was already in remission. Therefore I cannot be put on the system because I wasn't seen twice and it all historic now so they can't change it. You couldn't make it up!

I haven’t seen my Consultant in over 2 years because of Covid. My last appointment was cancelled due to the lockdown, I’ve had 3 GP telephone appointments, and 2 hospital admissions. I see my GP today and will demand a referral to a consultant! After reading the article today about ‘3000 PWD deaths’ I think it’s time we take some control back, respectfully.

The docs thinking drugs cure all
I wasn’t seen for 18 months by an actual live person it was all over the phone which I hated no blood tests nothing.
That’s when I went of the rails. I then had to site NICE guidelines to them I kid you not. I was then seen every 3 months for a blood test. My original doc came back and I’ve been phoned and seen a lot in this past year. I’ve had a cancer scare and was seen from doc to hospital in 6 weeks. So I do believe we have the postcode lottery at play here.

my son hasn’t seen his consultant in 2 years now and isn’t pushy enough and the nurse sees him these days at the surgery.
He has a host of problems and a phone call won’t help he does need to see a live person that knows what they are talking about. He isn’t at my surgery but directly across the ways.

im type 2 he’s type 1
