Type 2 Is extending your fast upon waking a good idea if you experience dawn phenomenon?

A couple of things to consider. Is it actual nausea or could it be old fashioned hunger? What are your bgl at that point in time?

My morning readings are mostly in the 6’s (6am) and will creep up to high 6’s, sometimes low 7’s by the time I eat (8am). Then 2 hours after breakfast I’ll be low 6’s, sometimes high 5’s. By 12pm I’m in the 4’s.

I think the sick feeling is to do with stomach acid. It’s the only time of day it ever happens. My hunger feels physically different when it happens later in the day.

It sounds to me that what you’re doing is working for you and if it makes you feel better to eat then don’t change it, those numbers are very similar to mine

Ah, see now you're moving into areas that are my greatest nemesis when it comes to low carb diets. I don't like cauliflower, don't like courgetti, and avocados should be banned for crimes against food. This rules out about 80% of keto/low carb recipes on the internet! :)

When it comes to sweet stuff, agree completely. Without the endless assault of sugar on my taste buds, low carb sweet treats are now a real treat. Dark chocolate and asparagus also taste sweet to me. Amazing how our bodies adapts to these things.
I've never tried courgetti but I do have a new low carb pasta alternative to try this week. 100g cooked contains 3.6g carbs and 22.5g protein so here's hoping it'll be good.

I agree about the change to taste buds. I can taste the sweetness in many more vegetables now.

Would you mind sharing the link for that pasta, please?

As the main cook in my house, I still cook family favourite pasta meals for them. Not a problem for me, but would be nice if I could also join them, just with a pasta alternative. Keen to still maintain that family meal time thing if possible, sharing a meal together.

As an aside, I keep telling friends that my wife forces me to do this, as punishment for becoming diabetic. As you can imagine, she's delightfully entertained and amused by my wit! :)

No worries: https://lowcarbfood.co/shop-category/pasta/

I still like the look of what used to be a ‘normal’ plate of food, hence the LC toast and pasta.

Not heard that one before!

Thanks, some really good options on there, have placed an order.

Keep us updated on your morning issues, hope you manage to improve them with some of the advice in this thread!
