    I'm as mad as hell!!

I have been on Metformin for 5 years, the first 6 months on general release one with tummy troubles, then the slow release with no adverse effects other than this year I've become B12 deficient and so am now on an injection every 12 weeks for the rest of my life. If you have any side effects...

Middle of the night toilet visits

Don't know if your diet has anything to do with it but you are about the right age for getting your PSA tests done for your prostate, one of the symptoms of prostate trouble is having to get up to go to the loo alot in the night. I'd make an appointment for a PSA test if I were you.

Anonymous Question Type 2 - Should I be testing my blood sugars?

If you go onto the Diabetes.org.uk website there are educational tools to help people. As I said I don't test, I eat healthily (I do have some treats) and by counting my carbs and reading labels etc, doing the Xpert course I have dropped to pre-diabetic levels. My Diabetic team are very happy...

Anonymous Question Type 2 - Should I be testing my blood sugars?

I am T2, diagnosed in December 2011, I'm still overweight and losing slowly but with my metformin slow release (1000mg twice a day), my blood pressure tablets, and my simvastatin and eating a healtier diet and trying to more about more, my diabetes is now into the pre-diabetic range and my...

Diabetes UK & reduced carb (2)

On the weightloss group I'm on the low carbers say you should only be having 20g of carbs a day! They are quite forceful in their promotion of this and make some people feel really bad if they don't achieve it. This to me is far too low for most people and someone on a recent Xpert course I was...

Don't involve yourself in the blame game.

When I was diagnosed T2 in December 2011, I was asked by my diabetic nurse if I felt depressed because of it? I said no, in actual fact I'm relieved! I'd had diabetes hanging over me for years with glucose intolerance and my late mum was T2 insulin dependent diabetic and my sister is also T2 for...

Cut my foot, can I use any type of antiseptic cream?

Last night I stood on something sharp and cut my heel. I cleaned the wound and removed whatever it was that I stood on (couldn't see what it was!) and put a plaster on it. Today its really sore, as expected but I wondered if I was OK to use tea tree oil or propolis gel as antiseptic and...

New diabetic but why no testing?

I've not been to the Diabetic Nurse for my first visit yet, was diagnosed on 6 December. My local PCT doesn't allow for monitors and test strips to be given on prescription. Luckily I have a monitor that my late mum used and my sister (who's PCT does pay for strips) gives me her spare strips...

Will YOU ask your Dr for the 600 cal diet

I don't believe that going on a 600 cal a day diet is anyway healthy! I've had friends on lighterlife which is a similar low calorie thing and they've been ill with it and then put the weight back on. Nobody can maintain such a low calorie intake for long. My late mum was insulin dependent type...

    Tingling Toes

I'd have a word with your Diabetic Nurse if I were you. Could be bad circulation but best to get it checked out by someone qualified to diagnose.

    Hi

I joined this forum back in 2010 when my late mum was ill and wanted some advice about diabetes as I was diagnosed with glucose intolerance. I am now, as I feared I would become, diabetic. I was diagnosed on 6 December and immediately put on 1 metaformin and 1 simsvastatin a day. My 1st...

    Foot massagers..GOOD or BAD

I've got a JML circulation booster and am recently diagnosed diabetic but a friend, who is also diabetic, has had her circulation booster longer than me and finds its a great help. I love to use mine and I definitely feel the benefit when I have swollen ankles (side effect of my blood pressure...

    Heading towards diabetes!

Hi My mum is 89 and insulin dependent, my sister is on tablets and my best friend is also insulin dependent, so you'd think I'd know how to avoid becoming diabetes. Yes, I do, but have I done much about it? Answer is no. My GP has been wonderful and keeps cajoling me to do something and I did...
