    Apidra Discontinued

Thanks for the reply. I also have found the Apidra pens inconsistent on small doses, so maybe the NovoRapid is a good idea to try. I'm speaking to my DSN today. I also have trouble with the tail of Apidra and maybe if NovoRapid is that bit longer might help. Thanks again

    Apidra Discontinued

Pharmacist has just told me he can't fill the script for Apidra as I am not a priority case. (Not young enough, no allergies, not old enough, etc etc) Any recommendations what to switch to? I'm assuming NovoRapid is the nearest, but is it worth switching to vials until the supply problems are over?

DVLA considering revoking licences of insulin users

As far as I have read, no-one knows the exact situation until it is brought before Parliament shortly after their recess. The DVLA is in the process of "updating" their forms for a change, so we know something is coming. At the end of the day, if they are heading towards an almost blanket ban...

    Multiclix lancing device

I'll give that a try, though I don't use their meter, just the lancing device, so they might be less than willing! As for the ebay link, as stated, it's just too wasteful to buy a new meter package and never use the meter. I suppose I could send the meter to a charity for use.

    Multiclix lancing device

Anyone know where i can buy just the lancing device? (at a sensible price) I find it wasteful to buy a whole monitor kit (£9) for it, but the "device kit" costs far more for the lancing device and some lancets only. (up to £54 on amazon, though £20 seems the norm)

    Just got my Contour USB

Re: Bayer Contour USB Help??? Hi, I find the strips need to be insert correctly too, any slight angle makes a difference. Also, the device does not like the cold. (Like a lot of electronics) If it has gotten cold, warm it up and try it again later.

Complaint made about me using my flexpen in staffroom

My main concern is that these people who have made a complaint have to educate children. I would not trust any of these people with the care of a diabetic. If there was a diabetic in their class, would they make them leave to test their blood? What if they required assistance to test? I really...

    DIABETES AND DRIVING LICENCE QUESTIONS

Re: DVLA revoked driving licence - any advice? I've read most of this thread in a state of disbelief. It seems that some people actually believe the DVLA enjoy taking licenses away for no good reason. That amazes me. There also seems to be a large confusion between the DVLA having a duty of...

    Diabetic and angry!

You need to be very careful. Things stated as 0 carbs, are often using polyols (sugar alcohols). They *can* and *do* effect some people as much as carbohydrates. Other people they have no effect, as usual, it's a try it and see thing. If you do go for total carb eradication, you need to pay...

    Statistics for insulin pump users

Sorry to bump an old thread, but after a FOI from my hospital, Patients with Type 1 = 1384 Patients of type 1 with MDI = 1174 Patients of type 1 with pumps = 59 Some 4.3% of type 1s with pumps. They also gave me cost information. Cost per pump = £2500 for a 5yr life span - for the 59 =...

Does one ever get out of denial over diabetes?

I always say to everyone who sympathises about my type 1, that I am extremely lucky. I had a life till the age of 30 before my type 1 came on. I can't imagine the hardship of going through teen years with it. That said, I've never been in denial. I started carb counting after a week, DAFNE...

    What my GP did today...

That is shocking. I would change GP and complain. This GP clearly does not have patient needs or care anywhere near the top of his agenda. As a Type 1 myself, to keep levels in a good range, I am constantly battling against hypos. Removing the ability to check my BS and correct would mean I...

    Non-Invasive blood checking

Exactly. The manufacturers are not interested in replacing strips and lancets, as that's how they make their money. Non-invasive test kit would have to be priced to reflect the loss they would get from that, and the development costs of a new machine.

Why does my BG rise during exercise?

Mine rise during exercise. I had been following advice to eat snacks before and at half time, but I just got too high. I do tend to crash fairly quickly afterwards, and need the snack then though.

    advice needed please

Whilst that is generally the case, myself and one or two diabetics I have met (out of hundreds) have handled it very well. From day 1 of diagnosis as a type 1, I was on insulin, 4 times daily. Changed my diet overnight, and because I was so pro-active about my disease I was put on a DAFNE...
