Did any of you type 1s have a virus before you got diabetes?

Re: Did any of you type 1s have a virus before you got diabe Yes, I had a really nasty flu virus before getting type 1. My mum had the same virus (shortly after me) and ended up with rheumatoid arthritis (also an auto-immune condition) and we think the two are related. This is 30 years ago now...

How often do you change canula sites?

Mine start to get sore after only a couple of days, and sugars begin to get quite erratic after that. Anyone else have the same problem?

    Carpal tunnel syndrome - painful

Thanks for the replies, all. My appointment with the GP is tomorrow, but ironically the CTS is the best it's been for weeks! Will see how dismissive she is (usually, VERY). Herbie

    Carpal tunnel syndrome - painful

Hi all, For about a year or so, I've occasionally been getting numb fingers, hands and arms (most usually at night) – symptoms which have usually only lasted for a few days or so before disappearing for a few months. But for the last three weeks, my arms and hands / fingers have been pretty...

Insulin potency loss speed at different temperatures?

So that does, basically, mean that sugars can go up in heat. Interesting...

Sugars have gone ballistic in this heat!

Interesting, that, Jopar. I'd had a couple of days off, so maybe it was as simple as that. Change in routine, less rushing around... I was initially thinking that because I'm on a pump, the insulin would itself be heating up quite considerably and therefore becoming less affective. All ok today...

Sugars have gone ballistic in this heat!

Anyone else having similar experiences? My BG was 20 just now when I tested before lunch, and it was similar yesterday. I'm usually fine that time of the day - could it be the heat?

    Tiredness

In response to SarahW's original post, I am ALWAYS tired! Often wonder whether it's the diabetes; even before having kids I was always knackered, so it's an interesting idea...

    Medical Exemption Certificate

Mine looks like Sid's, but I've got no idea where it is. I've only had it a few years, though, just used to tick the box on the prescription regardless in the past.

Stress - does it make your sugars go up or down?

I can't remember, it's too long ago! But I am still finding atm, that my sugars go both ways when I'm stressed. Usually, when running about late, trying to get the kids off to school, I'll get to work and find myself hypo - but again, that could just be the affect of extra physical activity.

Why don't pumps come with pre-filled cartridges?!!

Hey, no worries. Not been on here for a while so apologies for not replying sooner! I've got an appointment with my DSN soon, so will ask about the DTRON, but not expecting much joy!

    bubbles in cartridge/infusion set

Bubbles are the bane of my life and affect my control MASSIVELY. Have got an appointment with my DSN next week (I think), so will raise the issue with her and report back.

Stress - does it make your sugars go up or down?

That is what's always confused me, Daisy. I tend to go low when I'm being overwhelmed by my two lively kids (aged four and 18 months) - but that may not necessarily be down to stress. It could be just because their hectic mythering is actually physically tiring! I dunno!!
