How much are you taking Lynn ? Nurse did warn me about side effects and said that was the reason for starting on a low dose.

Thought I'd cracked it but I was wrong.. 2 more episodes of loo dashes :( Although on a positive note, I feel less sick and the headache has gone.

Hubby made me smile.. when I had to dash into the loo on our return from a shopping trip, he said.. well it's a good job we stocked up on loo roll ! :D
Hi Daisy I am on 500 metformin twice a day just over a month now but I am getting really anxious sometimes like panic attacks

I'm still too new to this to advise you properly Lynn, but it sounds like you need to see your doctor and discuss those symptoms.
Especially if you aren't normally an anxious person.
From reading on here metformin doesn't suit everyone.
Hope the doctor has some positive suggestions for you.

Do have a chat with your Dr about this ... I could take them, they made my quality of life impossible to live with .. I low carb now and feel great :)

Oh dear :( Thought I'd cracked it but no, I've felt awful tonight.
I went out for my usual evening walk and felt dizzy and sick, Came home and tested my BG and it was only 4.1.
Before Metformin I was usually in the mid 5's and felt fine.
How low is too low and should I expect more of this ?

I am a few weeks ahead of you @daisyduck. I have found my body has adapted pretty well now. I really suffered though for perhaps 3 weeks, not dizzy but definitely felt sick. Then someone on these forums recommended taking some cider vinegar (a couple of tablespoons with hot water and stevia). I found it pretty disgusting, and eventually ended up drinking it neat followed by a glass of water. But I have to say, placebo effect or not, it seemed to work in immediately making me feel less nauseous. Worth a try....at worse your breath will smell like the local chip shop.....

Thanks Klangley , good to know this will eventually pass. I've felt OK most of the day but the sick feeling is back tonight. I'll have to get some cider vinegar. I've been drinking lemon and ginger fruit tea with added lemon and chopped root ginger which has helped a bit too.

I've been prescribed Metformin. 500 dosage to start.

I was quite happy to carry on with LCHF diet as I'd got my Hba1c readings down to 49, but no, docs insist that Metformin will benefit me.

YUK! I've only taken 2 days and I feel awful. Fuzzy headache, stomach pains, I feel sick and the worst reaction tonight! I went out for my usual fitness walk and had to nearly run home to dash in the loo ! Dreadful diarrhea !!

Does this pass or have I got to expect worse ?

I took Metformin for about 6 months and found they gave me very bad migraine to the point I didn't think life was worth living and yes it was that bad. I stopped taking them after I had tried everything else to resolve my migraine and after my doctor told me not to stop, That was 18 months ago and I haven't had one migraine since. Always get advise from your doctor before stop taking any meds but if you are having headaches and taking Metformin talk to your doctor.

I call it Metfartin, for obvious reasons. I am currently on 2,000 mg (2 gms)
, and yes there are days when I can blow up a storm. Recently it got me released from Jury Service, so that was a bonus. I was doing ok until I started taking a herbal supplement, which I discovered, is also used to treat constipation, so enhances the effect. I only get the rumbles, no headaches or nausea thankfully. Metformin does work for me, and is the safest diabetic drug, so I will stick with it.

Thanks everyone. It seems to have settled a bit. I still have the occasional sick feeling.

I am a bit worried about my liver levels rising. I was way off the scale before I started the LCHF diet... 145 which is at least 4 times what it should have been. A year on low carb and the last test (before Metformin) was 35 (normal) and the specialist was really thrilled.

When my liver levels were high I used to get lots of cramp and had really itchy skin.. what's worrying me is that appears to be coming back in the last week ? Has anyone any experience of this please ?

That's brilliant ! I'd have been happy to do that.
I asked my doctor to let me do that in March, he was very stroppy and told me I was in denial.
I feel I'm being bullied into taking met .. as it's the done thing and they are following guidelines ?

I was tried on 4 types of statin before they finally agreed they don't suit me.
Same as you I had leg and joint pain.
When I asked what the statins were doing to make me feel like that I was told.. it does happen in some people.
I replied, yes, i know, but what is actually causing the pain.. they admitted they don't know !
I said, well if you don't know, then i'm not taking them.. feel so much better without them ! I can dance the night away now without painkillers :)

i'm on 2000mg per day and up until recently i've been fine. had a couple of dashes to the loo in 5 months but the last 2 to 3 weeks I've constant nausea. the thought of food makes me feel sick and eating is a very unpleasant experience.

mentioned it to DN yesterday who is waiting to see the results of the latest aback but thinks i may be able t reduce the dosage. discussing with the GP tomorrow.

apples, dry cream crackers or boiled eggs are all i can each without retching at the moment

My sick feeling came back again today, I'd been fairly good for a few days.
I felt better after I had a lemon and ginger fruit tea. I added a slice of lemon and some chopped root ginger, it did seem to quell the nausea, maybe worth a try DeanLJ ?

Thanks for the reply, you reminded me that I've not been having my green tea recently, maybe that's made a difference.

will have my 2 a day again from tomorrow
