Hey guys,

Newly diagnosed type 1 end of June this year, getting on ok but still have many questions that I'm sure I'll be able to answer myself with experience.

I was told to drive I need to be at least 6mmol or above. This has been fine until the other day when it was close to lunch and my reading was 5.7. What would you guys do at this point eating wise? Surely I'm too high to be packing down glucose tablets but then if I eat something else like an oat cake it takes too long for my sugar to come up, what would you do?

Thanks,

Mike.

In the UK, the DVLA guidance is "five to drive". They state that you shouldn't drive below four and if between four and five, eat a snack to bring you up.

The fear is that if you start driving below five you may go hypo.

At 5.7 I'd have just driven anyway.

as @tim2000s s says but if it put's your mind at rest or you know you tend to drop then have some quick acting carbs it's better to be safe than sorry.
