Hi haven't been on in a while cause i went on holiday and fell of the wagon with a bump but i'm sorting myself out again. What i wanted to ask is a few things about feet as i've asked my doctor a couple of times and not got an answer i hope i may get some help here.In the morning my feet feel like they have been beaten with sticks,i find it very painfull to walk for a short while then it fades off. Also through out the day i get very sharp pains every now and then and at night they swell up and feel cold. When i ask the doctor could it be diabetes he just says might be,but if possable could any one put me right, what it is and maybe tell me some thing i can do about helping it i also walk a lot as i don't drive, thanks,Shan x

soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
shandromeda,As a diagnosed diabetic, you can refer yourself to the NHs Podiatry services. Find their number on your PCT or hospital website

Firstly, your doctor should know that neuropathy (nerve damage) is often caused by diabetes and there are drugs out there which will ease the pain, specifically formulated for neuropathy caused by diabetes.

I don't drive either and walk a lot therefore. It took me a week to get used to Crocs (they weren't painful, just felt strange) and now I love them. I can walk and walk and never get sore aching feet or blisters.

A foot spa bath is a great foot treat ! :)

wow, that is me exactly. My Doctor sent me for xrays - found healing broken bone in one foor, healing craks in the other foot - how I got them I'll never know, but they were discounted as the cause. Referred to Podietry service, saw two specialists, lots of tests, good pulse etc, nothing found, blood tests for Rhuematoid Arthritis - negative. So my GP said, OK, so, by process of elimination, has to be diabetic neuropathy. Offered painkillers. For other mdical reasons I don't do painkillers lower than morphine equiv - so I just have to put up with it. Great !

Once you have Neuropathy, deal with it - properly. Because it isn't fun not being able to walk if you are wearing the wrong shoes or have blisters on your sole. Manage yourself as best you can and Invest in proper health care slippers and shoes. Lightweight, soft and extra wide to avoid all those aches and pains. Cosyfeet sell exactly that! Expensive, (you are exempt from paying VAT) but worth it. They sell socks too, for those cold toes. GP's are not foot specialists - make an appt to see someone at your health care foot clinic as soon as you know something is wrong - don't hope it will go away - because it won't! Your feet are very important, and as a T1 for 44 years, I should know. Forget all those fancy brands and image making shoes. They may look good, but they will harm you in the end.

I get tired aching feet in the morning and last thing at night, I have been told it is due to the startings of Neuropathy. I wear diabetic crocs, they don't have the bumps inside, all the time for walking and find them the best foot wear ever for comfort, and in the winter I wear the fur lined mammoth crocs, they have a web site with all kinds of styles and also a list of shops around the Country. I have tried all the other kinds of specialist shoes but always go back to my crocs in the end. The Podiatrist and Diabetic Nurse agreed that they are really good for diabetics. Good luck with finding out what is wrong and hope you find relief soon.
