Hi, looking at the low carb diet, I see eggs as good food, do you know whether they affect cholesterol levels greatly as I have high cholesterol, been told its genetic, but have always gone easy on them cos thought they were bad for me, also am wondering what kind of effect if any the carb diet has on IBS as have that too, and have had a pretty low fat diet for years now. Also, am I understanding it right, that if you are unwell or have some kind of infection, that your sugar levels go up, do you have to take any special measures during those times, I usually just start taking echinacea and golden seal till I feel better. Thanks, Julia.

cakes, pastries and biscuits raise the cholesterol I think.

My cholesterol at my 1st hba1c test = 6.2, 3 months and 180 eaten eggs later (based on 3scrambled eggs per day) my cholesterol is now 5.6, go figure 8)

soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
I often eat eggs andd y last cholestero was 3.4
It's grains that cause cholesterol in the blood,NOT dietary cholesterol

Thanks to all for the input, its so nice to know you're there. Can anyone advise what to do when you get what I had called the "hunger trembles", I had put that down to the IBS, but am now wondering if it more relates to my bg from what I read, get it on occasion at work and used to carry a chocolate bar as that always did the trick, but obviously cant do that anymore, need to carry something I can eat on the run as am in and out of the car when working days, walking round a lot, have felt a bit wobbly when these trembles have hit. Thanks and regards, Julia.

Rude people! Not being able to do the things I want to do.
Try a pack of glucose/dextrose tablets from the chemist. One tablet will will raise your blood glucose by approximately one point.

Cheers for that Sue, don't suppose you or anyone else can recommend a good basic recipe book for low carbs ?, am working out the new way of eating step by step and wondered if there is another book that complements the carb counter. Also, I read about the hbac1 test, is that the next step after the diagnosis ?, thanks, Julia.

People who are touchy.......feign indignation at the slightest thing. Hypocrites, bullies and cowards.
Here's a few you might like to consider ?

You would still need to test to see what the meals do to your Bg levels as well. Even though they are low carb recipes not all may be suitable for YOU.

Then again just go through what you like to eat and check the carb content. If it's too high then find a substitute. There is always an alternative. I very rarely use a cookbook, they usually end up gathering dust anyway ?

As regards a HbA1c test you should have been told what your level is on diagnosis, from then on the NICE guidelines should apply:
1.3.2 Measure the individual’s HbA1c levels at:
• 2–6-monthly intervals (tailored to individual needs) until the blood glucose level is stable on unchanging therapy; use a measurement made at an interval of less than 3 months as a indicator of direction of change, rather than as a new steady state.
• 6-monthly intervals once the blood glucose level and blood glucose-lowering therapy are stable.

BTW. Going back to your 'hunger tremblies ?' Gluco Tabs are good for a quick fix, but what you should do is make sure you have some food. A light snack to keep them at bay. Take a lunch box with you with a selection of things in it that you like and are good for your Bg levels.
