Cruelty. being in physical pain with my disability. Feeling 'drugged' out on prescribed medication that's needed for pain. Sleep problems.
I have never looked back since going on injections in July 15. I have Lixisenatide 20 mcg in the morning and at the moment 44 units of Humulin I at bedtime. I also have 2x Metformin slow release tablets after my evening meal.

I am really pleased I went on injections. It has made me take stock of things and I have changed my eating habits resulting in a loss, to date, of weight of 56 pounds (25.4 kg) since August 2015. Basically, I decided to live after years of just letting things slip, including other areas of my health. I was on a slow (or sudden) road to death before. I still have a lot of weight to lose and intend to lose it, but I take nothing for granted, even though I feel certain the road I'm on now, is the road I will stay on and I will get down to a much healthier weight. Life is always one day at a time.

I would suggest that having injections is nothing to worry about. The needles are minuscule. You rarely feel anything. I'm certain the benefits far out weigh anything else, especially when you see your levels going down.

Yes I insisted on going on injections. My internal medicine doctor booked a 2 day dress test and they found blocked arteries. I had no symptoms and had a quintuplet bypass. If I hadn't sought injections who knows what would've happened.
I take 64 units Lantus and approx 60 units NovoRapid. . . I also take Janumet 2 times a day which is a combo Of Metformin and Januve. Also take a glicide pill 2 times a day. No blood pressure meds. I also take a cholesterol pill even though my cholesteral and Tryglicerides are perfect. My risk factor was always below 1 even before the bypass.

I had insulin while pregnant 26 and 21 years ago and then Byetta and Victoza about 4 years ago - all of which worked really well. The Victoza so well that consultant took me off and said 'goodbye'!! However, this past year I have been very unwell with various things and my BG went through the roof (102!!!), so I'm back on the meds - I can't remember the name of the new one (unpronounceable anyway!), which worked for a bit, but seems to be going off the boil now and numbers are rising slowly. I do carb count and try to keep under 30, but certainly under 50.

My worry is that he said if this doesn't work, it will be insulin next. I am not sure that I want that for the rest of my life???

The alternative isn't too appealing either!

As part of our Diabetes Week questions, here's a question for people with type 2 diabetes who have gone onto injections -or are considering going onto injections.

How did (or do) you feel about switching onto injections?

Did/do you have any worries about going onto injections?
If/when you made the switch, how did you adapt to being on injections?
- was it easier or harder than you thought?
- was there any part of it that struck which you hadn't considered before going onto injections?

This question covers injections for insulin or for incretin mimetics like Byetta, Victoza and Bydureon
I've always been on injections for the last 43 years. I haven't had any problems and when I have low blood sugars, my husband will give me a glucagon injection, if I can't stabilise it quick enough.

I've been injecting for about 2 years and very happy with it. I inject about 4 times a day, once for long acting and 3 times before meals.

I am undecided whether to go back to Metformin and come off Insulin because at times I do not feel very well after injecting same. I have gone up to 16, I am not sure how much is best,

I have been on insulin since Feb 1as well as metformin and gliclozide. Doing the injections does not bother me at all but itis taking a long time to get the dosage right with the help of my diabetes specialist nurse. I started off on 12units at night. Now take 14units at night and 16 in the morning but sugars still too high. At the moment I am on long acting insulin but I have been told that on Monday I will be changed to combined insulin

They always start you off cautiously. I started with 2 units Lantus a 9 pm and now take 64 units plus approx 20 units NovoRapid before meals. I also take Janumet which is a combined pill with Metformin and Januvia twice a day. Also take a glicide pill twice a day.
My sugars have been under control for years but did have to react to changes. I'm pretty well judging what I need now with visits to my diabetic care people every 6 months.

My cholestrol is now going back up and is 8.3 and she concerned im on line for another heart attack , so for me hopefully going on insulin will help save my life

They always take you off glicide pills when you go on insulin. I put myself back on it after a week of higher BG.
I had a quintuplet bypass surgery at 70 years old and my cholesterol was perfect without drugs.
If your BG is high, you need a larger dose of insulin. I take 64 units of Lantus at 9 PM and approx 20 units of NovoRapid before each meal or snack. I still get the odd 10-14 BG reading but very rare

hi Tom i go back to see the diabetic nurse on 22nd to see then if we need to up the dose of insulin. I find being constantly tired hardest to deal with i never sleep through the night and only sleep for about 4 hours a night, unless i take a sleeping tablet which i do a couple of times a week .
