I have been type 2 diagnosed in 2002 and will now have to use Insulin, I have read all the literature been on line and watched a DVD and still feel unsure what to expect a little scared about injecting, so many questions to ask. I am not first and won't be the last can this community share their experiences with me and insure that it's not that bad

@laughing_girl, if you need to start using insulin, there are many who will support you through the transition.

Has your doctor or dietician suggested trying the low carbohydrate diet first? There's lots of support here for that too.

To learn more go here... http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/category/low-carb-diet-forum.18/ This diet helps type 1 and 1.5 diabetics too. Richard Bernstein, MD, a type 1 diabetic, now in his early 80's restored his health with this diet 40 to 50 years ago, and is still teaching the diet through his books and YouTube videos.

I crossed over into type 2 diabetes in 2005, but didn't do anything about it until I was re-diagnosed a year ago with a blood glucose of 282 mg/dL in the US. My A1c was 9.9%. Last A1c was 5.4%. I was able to do this in 4 weeks with daily walks and diet, no medication or insulin. My journey began 35 years ago when I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia.

Insulin
Hi - I've been on full time insulin therapy since beginning of 2010. I was diagnosed as type 2 in 1998. I had the diagnostic tests done again in 2010 and my endocrinologist said I now have to be on insulin for life. I've not turned into type 1 contrary to advice from a lot of people telling me so online... you can't be type 1 or type 1.5 unless your diabetes is auto-immune. With me my pancreas has just run out of steam basically and I now have beta cell damage so insulin not being produced like it should be. I'm guessing you're in the same boat.

You learn to deal with the injections quite quickly. I use apidra as my bolus, and lantus as my basal. I was on protophane initially but that was the wrong basal for me. I have had more hypos since being on insulin, but I manage them ok. I just make sure I stick to a routine and remember to take the insulin and check my BGL's when I should be. I'm on a sliding scale instead of the insulin to carb ratio. I'm not 100% convinced that works for me as basically I'm doing what I'm told to do by my endocrinologist. Although on saying that he is a very good endocrinologist and he trains other docs here. I've been seeing him regularly for 10 years now. He is more interested in my overall health that which is a pleasant surprise for me as I initially thought he was arrogant. He has instead turned out to be one of my best specialists I see.

Hopefully you have a good medical team that can help you through it. I hope you have a good endocrinologist, that certainly helps.

I wish you the best. :)

Don't worry I've been on it since November it's a lot better blood sugar under control if it goes high I take a little bit and down it comes.
