Hi everyone , I just wanted to share my experience with my type 2 . It's been a wild ride . Approximately 6 weeks ago , I was told I'm a type 2 diabetic . My A1c 12.6 and my random blood sugar was 23.9 . It felt like I was just hit by a Train. My doctor gave me a prescription for pills 2000mg a day and a prescription for a gluecometer along with a referral to a dietitian. I was in and out of his office within 10 minutes . He told me nothing . I could feel the depression starting to set in , As I sat in front of the drugstore . Then it hit me . I needed not to be depressed , but I needed to fight back . So I got my prescriptions and went home . I was on the Internet as soon as I walked threw the door . Believe me , there is an astronomical amount of information on the Internet . But once you syphon threw all the sales pitches and gimmicks , you will find helpful info . I found two diets that made sense to me . LCHF diet and Ketogenic diets . So that night my wife and I cleaned out the kitchen . Anything we deemed bad went into the trash . I also started 30 mins of walking as well . I immediately cut out all pop , candy / sweets , fruit juices , all pasta , rice , breads . Twice a week I do cheat with the bread . I try and get all my carbs from better sources . I now drink my coffee with 1 cream only no sugar . The following week I started at the gym , 3 times a week weight training and 3 additional days of the week with 30 min of cardio. I will say the first two weeks of my new lifestyle was difficult but I started adjusting . I'm tryin to stick to 1600 calories a day for my initial weight loss . And my doctor has made me promise him to bump it up to 1800 to 2000 calories a day in the next month . I highly recommend discussing all of the above actions with your doctor , as everyone's case is different . I did feel the affects of this but I frequently have been going for follow ups to my doctor to make sure everything is OK . But I must say that in the last couple weeks I feel pretty good . After two weeks my doctor's including a diabetes specialist that I found on my own took me off my medication . My fasting glucose was now 6.5 and before I ate was between 5.2 and 6.5 . These results fueld me even more . The doctors told me that's it's remarkable. And they were excited to see my continuing progress . Both doctors told me they have seen this before and accredited it to weight loss and diet . I'm now at 6 weeks and my fasting glucose is 5.1 to 5.6 ,before meals 4.5 to 5.8 . I go to the gym after dinner and usually I get 4.1 to 4.8 after I'm done my workouts . My last specialist appointment was three days ago and she said it looks I'm reversing it . But that being said , I will still have to maintain a healthy lifestyle for the rest of my life and I'm OK with that . So this goes out to all newbies and veteran diabetics , this is not a death sentence , there is hope . We create our own paths with this . It's not easy at first . I did this for my wife and two daughters that need their father . I am a smoker and this is my next war , but I'm going to win . Good luck to you all
