Hi looking for advise please. I've had type 2 for 2 years now. Done really well and got my hba1c down to excellent levels.
But starting in November I've been getting high waking blood levels. I was getting 5s. Now getting 8, 9s.
Obviously I'm worried. I spoke with my practice nurse but she seemed unconcerned.
I tried testing in the night as a friends daughter is specialist diabetic nurse and she suggested I may be having hypo in my sleep and then being flooded by kidneys sending sugary levels up. I tested at 4.30 last night and got 10.5!!!!! OMG!
I hadnt eaten since 9pm . And that was two rich tea biscuits with a cuppa.

Hi Lin,
those are pretty high numbers!have you tried some natural supplements like fenugreek?
I am still working hard to get my fasting BG lower & trying some fat/protien snack before i sleep.
Mine is still in the 7-8's mmo/l.

Have you changed what you eat in any way? Have you always had the biscuits before bed?

Any changes to WHEN you eat? Sounds like a lot of liver activity due to fasting...body "protecting" it's own interests..dumping glucose. Do levels settle down once you've had breakfast..a coupla hours later? Skip the biscuits!

@Lin 26 I don't like high blood glucose levels either. It's unsettling. I'm sorry this is happening to you.

Perhaps it's time to trade out the processed foods made with flour and sugar for healthier whole foods. Some type 2's do well on a whole foods, plant based diet - (both Neal Barnard, MD and Joel Fuhrman MD have written books on this diet for type 2 diabetics) - others do well on the low carbohydrate diet. I personally use the LCHF diet, started a year ago - (learn more at http://www.dietdoctor.com/lchf). No medication, last A1c was 5.4%. Have had type 2 diabetes for about 10 years now. Try to walk 1 to 3 miles daily.

What do you think? What do you want to do?

I find that my fasting levels only come down to 5 after a few days of fasting. That is after I have emptied my liver of its glycogen stores. I suggest you look at removing the biscuits. You haven't said why an if thare are any medical reasons you are eating them.

5.8 this morning. I expected it to be high due to three glasses of Bubbly last night (1st in 8 weeks) so plesently surprised. I'm coming to the end of the 8 week blood sugar diet which I really recommend. I've lost 1.5 stone and blood sugar has dropped from around 9 to anything in the 5s. Twice while on this diet I have had fasting reading of 8.5 for no apparent reason. Guess it's the old liver dumping glucose.

Hi @Paulhedge are you suggesting that @Lin 26 looks into an 8 week very low calorie diet; that is an extended fast?

Hi - I was diagnosed about 2 months ago when my hba1c test revealed a 7.1 reading. I'm not on medication just yet, I was told by the doctor to go low carb and exercise before we can confirm the diagnosis.

I've lost 4 kg since then and my fasting BG averaged at 6.4 in the mornings even though my pre-meal readings are always below 5.9 and post-meals below 7.8. So why is it that my morning readings haven't gone below 5?? Any advice?

The high levels are down to your body getting you read to start your day with a bang. It shows you still have some insulin resistance.

Don't stress as that will make it worse just like my BP at the doctor's.

My blood sugar levels have been around 9.2 when getting up in the morning they have a tendency to go a bit higher as the day goes on also have headaches and dizziness don't know if its connected would like to get them down a bit, have spoken to my Diabetic nurse who has suggested going on a weekly injection to curb my appetite to help get my weight down, could do with a bit of advice on how to get these levels down in the meantime.

If you need to lose weight then I thoroughly recommend trying one of these:
1. A fasting regime 5:2
2. The newcastle diet - basically 800cal/day or similar. There is a link in my signature which tells the story how I went in 3 months from high to normal. Worth a read and also look for the newcastle diet at newcastle uni.
3. A very low carb diet (ketogeic)

They will all help bring your BG levels down at a greater or lesser extent. Not that not all options work for everyone. The key is find what is right for your body

Not really helpful. Sorry to say!

Hi @Lin 26 all of the posts are about the other posters high fasting levels. Any advice they get would potentially help your situation as it will allow the community to provide you with the best overall knowledge.

Have you read the posts and considered the responses. I do not know what you can eat when you have had your gall bladder removed so you will have to temper advice against your other medical condition
