Hello everyone,

In the past few days I have had a positive pregnancy test and instead of feeling excited I feel nervous and daunted. I have had type 1 for 26 years and am reasonably well controlled.
Is there anyone else going through similar at the minute?

There's no need to be daunted :) The pregnant ladies here are just like you and are managing well, or, like me, have already given birth.

Take one day at a time :) Concentrate on diabetes control, healthy eating, resting and relaxing as much as you can. You'll find the days and weeks whizz past all too quickly.

You'll have a whole specialist team to help and support you, as well as all the lovely ladies here, so you're not alone. :)

Hiya congratulations. Just take one day at a time. I've been diabetic for 35yrs and had 2 children one age2 and twins now 6m. It's hard work but it's all worth it. Have you been to pre conception clinic and do your team know you are pregnant? As @azure says they will support you as well as us that are up doing night feeds and replying to you at 1.30am xx

Hello, Thank you very much for your messages of support! I am struggling already with my BM's running high and that along with the nausea and cramping from being pregnant is just adding to it now. Yes I did pre conception clinic last year and I have been in contact with the teams also and have got my initial appointments booked xx

Hello

I attended the preconception clinic and took folic acid in advance and got my hba1c down but when I got the positive result, oh my goodness I went into panic mode! I think I was in shock for about 2 weeks gradually that passed and with the support of the forum and hospital I just took each day and tried the best I could.
I made sure I wrote down all my readings which helped me massively and also the consultants when I attended the clinic fortnightly.
Ethan was 5 weeks early. My liver function results and BP was rising and he decided he wanted out. He's now 4 months and I wouldn't change a thing.

You'll be great x

Hi natw, just found out today that I'm pregnant. Been type 1 for 31 years. Like you say, now it's real it's a bit daunting but exciting. Have had to double my basal rate since just after my embryo transfer 2 weeks ago (conceived via IVF) and will need to increase again today to beat the evening and morning highs.

Good luck with everything! Keep me posted as to how you're getting on - a bump buddy would be great ;) xx

I am in exactly the same boat. I've had good pre conception care but still having to try really hard not to completely panic, especially over individual blood sugar readings. We need to look at all the positive stories here to keep us going.
