Hello everyone
My machine arrived and Ive been monitoring my sugar levels. Yesterday I woke up with a sugar reading of 6.0 and then had breakfast - 2 hours later checked and I got 7.8. At 3 am I checked again because I was starving and I got 6.8. I had somethimg to eat at 10 pm but no carbs.

What could this possibly suggest?

You need to be aware of the overnight liver dump effect that puts glucose into the blood stream ready for the start of the day. It's quite normal so don't worry.

Think you got your answer by virtue of the "liver dump" message from @Daibell . It happens so it will gradually come down.

Are you still eating fruit and if so, what so?

We need the fruit types as fructose converts to sugars (quickly) and will spike you. Pineapples for example. Please don't look at metformin (or anything similar) as it is not the panacea many believe they might be, whether it is directed at hunger and / or weight control. The loss of kilos (for many at least given we're all different and have other conditions) is essentially down to what exercise you might be able to do, a good diet, a lot of water and a rigorous program.

Let us know any other questions you might have so good luck :) Mike

Hello Everyone,

I am going to update you on everything.

From what I can gather, metformin is not working for me and is not showing any effects on me like it claims to and I believe this is ok because metformin is not for everyone. I am going to ask the endocrinologist if he can give me anything that will

- suppress my appetite
-help me lose weight
-decrease the level of insulin I have floating in my body
- control my blood sugars.

If there is a medication out there that can assist with these 4 things esspecially the top two I would be so happy.

Please let me know what you all think of this.

I am desperate for answers as I have put on 4 kg in 3 weeks and the only thing I can think of is that I am doing low carb and exercising more. My body is just not responding to anything. I am seriously worried about my wellbeing and I am tired of my GP telling me its all good, when clearly it isnt.

Id rather be told I have a disease XYZ and the relevant cure, than to experience all this and be told I am healthy and nothing is wrong with me.

Everyone's thoughts and opinions would be much appreciated.

Honestly? My thoughts are that you have been given the answers to every question you have asked, in detail, by several people, on this thread.

I know that making dietary changes isn't easy, and is often unappealing, but (as huge numbers of people on this forum have proved) controlling pre-D, T2 and reactive hypoglycaemia by diet is quicker, easier and simpler than by medication. Likewise for PCOS - which has an excellent track record for control by low carbing.

Have a read of the success stories.

I have been around this site for about 6-7 weeks now, I started off in a bit of panic & I'm only pre-diabetic - who, me ? !! Now I am getting used to things, and trying to learn as much as I can. I say this because I'm still a newbie with much to learn & can only give my observations.

From reading your posts, it seems to me that you may be looking for instant answers, and I wonder whether you have taken on board the advice given by the very knowledgeable folks in the posts above. I can understand your panic and the need for firm answers and results, because that's comforting - but it's an unlikely position for anyone. I think it will take time, experimentation, and some hard work for you to work out what foods are good for you and what are bad. It has been only just over a week since you first posted here, & only a couple of days since you got a meter.

I guess I'm saying relax a bit, give it time & thought, keep your food records & test after meals to see what works and what doesn't. And it might be worth while for you to read through the whole of this thread again, from your first post.

I would recommend you slow down and breathe. 3 weeks is not long enough for the metformin to start working. It needs time to build up in your system. There is nothing you are doing wrong except panicking. Stress also rises blood sugars. Stress also makes you hungry as you are getting ready for the flight or fight. I think you are probably an over worrier another reason to make you hungry. Its been 3 months for me to see the changes in Blood glucose readings. I was hovering around the 9s and Im now hovering around the 6s. Still some way to go but its slowly working . The 4kg gain may not be due to eating. Muscles weight more. As to the appetite increase, you need to chew slowly and wait at least 2hrs between meals. Drinking more water will help you feel fuller. Sometimes its thirst not hunger than you are experiencing. How much do you drink per day. Do you need to increase your fluids? I can also say foods that used to spike my bloods have also changed so if they spike today, it dos not mean they will always spike your sugars. Keep testing before meals and 2 hrs after meals. If you see a big spike that's the food you need to change. One of the things I do is if Im high after 2 hrs and am due more food is to eat v low carb foods (less than 5gs of carb per 100g preferably 0gs) until the blood sugars come down again.

I appreciate everyones comments.

My sugar levels are 7.8 now in the morning before breakfast and within that range throughout the day. I feel like things are just getting worse. Im due for my blood test to see what the hpac1 levels are in may and then im seeing an endocrinologist on the 12th. I cant do anything till then because not till we find out whats up based on those tests nothing can be said.

Yes im stressed you got it right but who wouldn't be? Hungry 24/7 and not being able to lose weight despite all the healthy eating and working my bum off at the gym I see ZERO RESULTS rather a gain in weight during a short span of time.

I dont feel like going to the gym anymore only because i know its pure waste of time.

The equation healthy eating plus exercise equals weight lost is just not working. I feel my body is stubborn and im in a battle with it. I genuinely feel theres something wrong and this needs to be addressed quiet quickly.

I feel im carrying half my god **** weight around my tummy and mid section. Im just bloated and look pregnant and overall this impacts my mental health quiet seriously.

Im not an obese person that eats junkfood sits on the couch and isn't concerned about their wellbeing. I eat very strictly and exercide rigourously and still see nothing.

I had a friend who just got back from europe from her honeymoon. She looks alot slimmer and fitter. She said she doesn't know why she just walked heaps but still ate lots of junkfood. And then theres me- who actually tries and sees no results.

What could be the cause for hunger? Why is my stomach not satisfied like ever? My gp is pointless

I think your problems have been answered. You say you eat healthily but you do not say what you are eating. If you are eating low calorie, fat free foods then you are not helping yourself. Your stomach is not satisfied because it needs healthy fats. You are looking for a miracle cure that works over night. Stop torturing yourself, none exist. Stop exercising until you have gained control over your appetite, you are pushing your body into I need more food than I have right now and that is probably one of the reasons why you are always hungry and why your body is demanding a higher blood sugar level. If you are eating the eat well plate of suggested foods, Stop. It has too many carbohydrates. Once you have regained control over the hunger, slowly re-introduce what you have stopped and if your appetite starts up again stop the newly introduced. You need to work on eliminating the causes of your hunger until you feel you have full control. Eating the wrong food will make you worst. What is the wrong food? It is different for everyone you have to figure what is the cause yourself no one else can tell you. That is why you need to monitor your blood sugar levels until they no longer produce peaks and troughs. If you think low GI is the same as low carb, its not, Low GI uses net carbs but a carb is a carb so discounting the fibre still means you are eating higher carbs which affects blood sugars, Good luck.

Dishonesty, selfishness and lack of empathy.
Let's try this. Are you eating - bread (in any form), cereal (including porridge), pasta (wholemeal included), potatoes (including jackets), rice (brown included), fruits such as apples, pears, bananas, oranges, grapes?

Hello everyone

Last time I was on here I was very anxious and depressed. Today Im feeling alot better.

I went to the Endocrinologist for the first time and showed him my results.

It turns out my HB1AC is 6.2
My hormones are all balanced
My BMI is healthy
And I dont have PCOS!

WHAT A RELIEF!
The specialist said that I am healthy and there's nothing wrong with me. He said the excessive hunger is not uncommon and many experience it esspecially when exercising vigorously. He said there is no cure for hunger.

The HB1AC level of 6.2 he said is virtually normal I may develop diabetes in the long run due to dad having diabetes.

After a good hard think of everything I downloaded myfitnesspal its a free app that messures your calorie intake based on the foods you eat. Turns out while I was eating a "healthy diet" ranging from.1200 to 1600 calorie intake, my carb intake was close to 250 grams per day! The highest intake for a healthy person should be 150!! This probably explains thr big belly I have and inability to lose weight.

For the next two months Im going to continue my regular exercise but stick to a 1200 calorie diet with very little carbs.

Does anyone have any low carb eat brekky ideas? If I have a filling breakfast my tummy gets some relief for a few hours which is good.

The best thing is Im not on any medication and dont need to be!

I do however believe I am insulin resistant
Has anyone tried inositol to manage their weight??

That all sounds like good and positive news for you.:)

A low carb diet is the way to go if you want to lose those pounds and get your HbA1c down to under 6%.

For breakfast try eggs, cooked any which way. Bacon and eggs, or cold meats, cheese etc. I used to have a full fat yogurt with a couple of strawberries thrown in but realised after a while it was this that was keeping my BS levels up all morning. It seems my body does not like any carbs at all at breakfast and that my insulin resistance is at its worst at that time.
EDIT just realised you are vegetarian, so ignore the meat bits!
