Hello all
I would like to purchase a pump but it is not available here as I am from the Middle East. I want to buy Animas Vibe online.
How can I buy it?
It is very expensive in my country.

Hello:)

As far as I'm aware (in the UK) you cannot purchase a pump without the consent of your diabetes team. This is because there are various training courses which need to be undertaken by the user in order for them to use the equipment safely and effectively.

There are also a lot of other 'consumable' items to consider for cost reasons and these combined with the initial outlay for the pump itself will go well into the thousands £GBP in the first year and the years to follow.

Unfortunately purchasing a pump is not just a case of getting one from the cheapest online international vendor; there are many other factors to consider.

This recent thread may be of use to you:

I understand that there is some training should be done before getting or using the pump. There are reps for the company in my country and they are ready to give me the necessary training. The thing is it is much expensive here than in UK.

@OmarX, as I and other members have said to you already on this topic. You cannot buy a pump online. They are prescription items that require healthcare professional involvement.

Please stop asking the same question.

Am I annoying you to ask and make my self clear. If you don't want to answer my question, leave it and let someone else answer me.
This is not a good way. You have to respect and understand people before replying in a way that gives bad image of you.

Sorry Omar, it's you who is giving the bad image of yourself :( You have been told countless times that you can not buy a pump on line so please accept this and focus your energy on something more productive.

Hi Omar,

I live in Turkey and I bought my Medtronic Minimed Paradigm pump here. It cost me 5000 lira about 18 months ago.

The problem is that the pump manufacturers have distribution rights agreements in different countries so you are not generally able to buy your pump in one country and use it in another. Before I got mine they made me promise that I was not about to move back to the UK!

Also the manufacturers often get rid of their old stock in, how shall I put it, 'non-Western, non-European' countries so, for example, my pump model is about 15 years old! (Having said that, I'm fine with it. It is great. My control has improved a lot. My life is better.)

So, if you want a pump, first you need to find a diabetes specialist in your own country who will supervise your use of it. Then you need to find the distributors of pumps in your region and either you contact them or your doctor contacts them. (I found Medtronic's Turkish distributor just by googling. My doctor called them for me.)

Then they send a sales representative to your appointment with your doctor. You discuss your needs together and you get some training from the pump sales rep and then your doctor deals with you after that.

They deliver all the infusion sets and tubing to my door in a package once every three months. I just call them and book a delivery.

I pay for my supplies but they are available on the health service here. You may be able to find out about that in your country from the company.

I hope that helps.

I really thank you for this very useful explanation. Actually the people who replied before you were impatient and using bad language.
Another one saying that they replied countless. However, they failed to explain it as clearly as you did.
Thank you again my dear.

I'm glad you got what you needed, its not easy to understand people's needs especially if English is not their first language and its great that RuthW understood what you were after. and was able to help you.

All the best
Chas

English is not my first language, but my message was very clear enough. The problem wasn't language understanding, it was the use of language

Hi again, Omar

I checked my paperwork and the chief distributors for Medtronic are in Dubai, so that may be easy for you. But there are other companies too and some of them may be distributing more recent pump models. If I were you, I'd Google Dexcom too - they do CGM but I think they also have a pump, and there's a Korean company too. I can't remember their name, though.

But really I recommend getting one. And join the pump forum here too so you learn how to use it properly. It has changed my life for the better.

Thanks again Ruth for you valued research and reply. How can I find distributor of other pumps. I'm looking for the distributor of Animas Vibe pump.
I hope I can find them to have direct contact with them. I'm sure the price will be less if I contact them directly.

Try contacting the head office for each of the pumps your considering purchasing and ask them for the details of who is the local distributor for your location, I'd be very surprised if they could not help you.

Here's the European Animas site. If you scroll down there's a button for the Middle East distributors

What is the reason for you wanting a Vibe and not another pump? If its cgm with Dexcom, then there are other ways of incorporating Dexcom technology using 3rd party such as nightscout and using any pump. The Dana pump is not too expensive.

I prefer it cause it is accurate and water proof. When I select a pump I should select the most advanced and up to date. I'm not going to change it for long time.

Omar, as you have been told, the approach to get a pump cannot be done on line. This was neither rude nor bad language. Those who responded to you were in the uk and telling you how it works here.

As it happens the Vibe is not the most up to date pump. It is based on a design that uses 10-12 year old technology and simply incorporates a CGM receiver. As long as that is what you're comfortable with then I wish you well but you'd be best placed to read about all of them before spending your money.
