My partner was struggling with his levels for quite a while. Have done the low carb high fat diet for about 4 weeks now and they have improved. He still has bad habits though and I can't get him out of the evening snacking. He eats nuts, a tin of sardines, a piece of cheese, an avocado ........ non stop until midnight some nights. Then he doesn't sleep! He gets a few hours here and there, but rarely goes a full night. Consequently he sometimes does his blood at times like 5am. At this time it is generally not too bad, maybe 5.5ish. If he does it later, at say 10ish when he gets up, it is often higher. I would have thought it would have been the other way around. It's often not too bad if he takes it before dinner, at about 7pm. All very confusing! I am really careful with the food too, no bread, pasta, rice, potato, carby veg, etc.
