I'm a newly diagnosed type 2. I have had a very rough time accepting all of this and truly feel like no one u understands. I know one diabetic in my life and that's all. My friends are supportive and want to be there for me, but they truly don't understand. I just think it would be nice to connect with someone near my age who is going trough similar things. Type one or two. Anything. I usually feel alone like no one understands. All of this is so hard, especially when it's new.

I have no idea how this app works so I suppose you can reply to me here.

Hello I'm type 2 of 10 years ago.Do you have a diabetic support group in your area .Google it to find out.Ive attended one in St.Albans for 10 yrs now.We have talks by the professionals 10 times a year with no meetings in Aug. and January. If there's not a group in your area would you be able to start a group? Honestly a good group is such a help as there are others in the same boat as yourself.Theres so much to learn but the best thing is to take a day at a time.I hope at diagnosis you were at least given some leaflets to read.Others will give you tips on management. As we are not machines but living organisms our own bodies will react to sugars in our diet slightly differently but the principles are the same.If you have not been given a meter to measure your blood sugar I strongly recommend you get one.The code free meter that's recommended on this forum.( sorry I can't remember the name of it but the strips are the cheapest if you have to buy your own.Your G.P. probably won't ask you to test your blood sugars if he does he will have to provide the strips for you to use.Sometimes the Drs. Get good rates for the strips and this is usually the case if your GP.gives you a meter.By testing your blood sugar before meals and 2 hrs after meals you will learn which foods you can eat that contain carbohydrate. It would be good if you can get a copy from this forum that explains to you about the foods that raise your blood sugar the most. You should get an HBA1c about 3 months after diagnosis and your G.P. Should explain your reading to you.If your G.P.doesn't explain the number to you a dedication diabetic specialist nurse should. If you are advised to loose weight it will bring your blood sugar down over time.I'm 70 yrs.old and still my blood sugars vary everyday .I was started with diet only ,then tablets and now I'm on tablets and Insulin.Unfortunately type 2 diabetes is a progressive disorder thus gets harder to control over time.As we don't know when our type diabetes started we don't know how far it's progressed.Type 2 's can have had the disorder for years without symptoms and sometimes type 2 is detected on routine blood and urine tests. Please can you tell me if I'm helping you and what you might like help with. Also what kind of support you would like. Thanks
