Re: VICTOZA

Hi again Viv.
You don't get rid of me that easy........

I am so glad that things on Victoza seem to be working out for you after such a short time. Just goes to show that with the right meds then gaining control of your Diabetes is much easier. There are some who think it is bad to go onto any meds.......I think this proves that sometimes some of us just have to. Otherwise we cannot get that good control.

Your improvement is just amazing........you must feel so much better now. I am so pleased for you as I know what you have been through. You stuck with the Byetta as long as you could but you finally took the plunge and have moved on to better things for you and your health. Great news !

I answer this topic as well Viv so I am still around.......

Ken. xx :D

Re: VICTOZA

Angie.
As I stated in my previous post a little way back you should discuss this with your GP asap. Especially as you say you are worried ?

Nose bleeds are NOT a recognised side effect.......however, if your BP is higher because of Victoza side effects then you may need some medication to counteract that. It is something you MUST discuss. There are many other causes of persistent nose bleeds, many of which are not Diabetes related which may need further investigations.

Re: VICTOZA

Has the GP given you anything to counteract this at all.........Aspirin is a recognised blood thinner and I suppose that, in combination with maybe a BP increase from Victoza has bought them on.

Did he/she explain much about it to you. Interested to know if he/she has reported it as a possible side effect. That's the only way people get to know about such things.

Re: VICTOZA

hi ,
i started victoza 3.5 months ago along with novorapid and levimer. almost immediately my blood sugars decreased dramatically thus decreasing how much insulin my body required. I hated giving myself 5 injections a day but the outcome is that once the side affects cleared i felt better also my hba1c dropped from 8.8 to 7.2. I amnow off my novorapid and on metformin which i have to say has made me feel worse than when i began victoza ,terrible tummy upset ,pains and neading to be near the toilet . i am suppose to increase metformin soon , not keen on this as i feel so ****. I am contacting my dns for advice . My main goal was to try and get off the insulin which after 3 months and over half a stone weight loss i seem to have achieved . Am worried now as i feel so **** they will put me back on insulin. These side affects could stop quick enough for me .
Thanks for listening to my story x

Re: VICTOZA

Deb1.
You need to ask to be put on the slow release Metformin if you are having trouble tolerating the standard stuff. It is supposed to reduce the side effects. Discuss this with your GP.

Re: VICTOZA

Hi, my first post here on the boards. I have been on Victoza for 8 days. I have had stomach aches, sometimes bad ones, diarrhea twice, headaches and very tired most of the time. When do the side effects go away???

I'm just on .6. My blood sugars are getting better. My best friend is freaked out that I have to inject myself even though I told her it's less painful than poking my fingers for blood sugars. All these side effects have really put me in a bad head space. I don't want to take the bus because of the tummy troubles so missed a counseling appt. and group appt. this week.

I called my doctor's office today to tell them my sugars for the week and the nurse didn't call me back. Will have to call tomorrow. I'm also taking 2 500 mg Metformin ER daily. I've had Diabetes for 12 years.

Thanks for any information!

I think this is a very individual thing. There are people who have posted in this thread that they have no side effects....then others who had loads. As for how long to subside....again, an individual thing. Some say a week, others two, three, four or more weeks. No definitive answer at all.

No pain.......no gain !

Re: VICTOZA

Hi Viv.
Those Bg levels are sounding really good.......5 - 7 after your meals is exactly what I used to get and am finally getting back to now my Cancer treatment has finished. After all your previous problems it is fantastic that you are having such success so quickly after changing your medication. I am so pleased for you. Getting that life and energy back is such a welcome thing and I am sure it will continue to improve. :D

As for this site.....we here are proud that it is going on and getting bigger and better with members from all over the World joining us daily. As you know, this place provides everybody with good clear factual information, advice, discussions and plenty of support. That is what this place is all about now. We are all Diabetic's and we don't need to divide ourselves into groups or follow just one way, we just treat everybody the same and help as best we can, when we can and however we can. It seems to work !

As for me........health is something I have had to concentrate on in the last 6 months and I am now getting back to my old self again......more energy, more life and definitely more time to do what I love doing best. Helping and advising people like you Viv, good people, nice people. I do tend to have weekends off now, but I am still around most days....... :D

Enjoy the upcoming holiday Viv, not too many cream cakes..... Keep telling us how things are going and you know where I am if you need to get any specific answers.....pm or whatever.

Ken. xx (can't put too many kisses....girlfriend get's jealous !! )

Re: VICTOZA

I have now been on Victoza for around 3 and a half months and it's going well. I have had a few high readings but I put that down to an infection I had and when it cleared up my BG levels went back to normal. I am due my 3 month test again soon so this will be the point they tell me if it's working better for me or not, but up until now I have had no real problems. :D

Re: VICTOZA

I've now been on Victoza for 3 months. I've had two bouts of sickness and diarrhoea which lasted for about an hour each, obviously something I ate disagreed with the Victoza. Apart from that I've had no other problems or suffered any of the listed side-effects. Weight has gone from 17st to around 13st 9lbs and the waist from 42 to 36. Weight loss has now slowed to a trickle which was expected, I will need to start exercising to reduce it further over the next few months. Hba1c is down to 7 from just under 10 and daily blood sugars are now steady and mostly within the 4 - 7 range, much better control than when I was on insulin. BMI is now down to 28 from 35. The Diabetic Specialist Nurse has told me that I now only need to test blood sugars once a month or so and that they will see me in 6 months time instead of monthly.
Pros are:
No more of the regular headaches I suffered when on insulin.
No longer feel tired and lethargic.
I no longer cut easily (especially on my shins).
Eyes no longer water when riding my motorbike on cold days and they're less affected by headlight glare than before.
I can 'go hungry', i.e. go longer between meals and even skip meals if I want.
I'm now conditioned to eating far less than I used to.
Cons:
None as far as I'm concerned, it's all been good so far.
