You know, over the years I've had some Hypoglycemia situations in some of the strangest places. I suppose it's bound to happen for people who live with diabetes for as long as I have. One thing I discovered the last week when cataloging my music compositions - (I'm a musical hobbyist) I've never written a song about having diabetes or the struggles one may encounter.

So I wrote a song and as living with diabetes is a very diverse subject - I focused on writing a song about Hypoglycemia (when I was a kid we used to call it Insulin Reactions). Anyway - one of my closest calls happened in a Gambling Casino in Las Vegas - the company actually rented a house for us, we were there to work a trade show. SO we dropped all our stuff at the house and hit the main strip to check out Las Vegas before we actually had to work. So here I was with some pretty serious jet lag, no American Currency to speak of other than maybe 10 dollars tops (Americans don't seem to like the Queen on their money LOL), no Sugar tablets or anything else and presto I go in to full Hypoglycemia mode. I almost lost consciousness but I was able to find an outside food vendor and bought the sweetest thing they had for under 10 dollars. It was a close call.

So that's what this song is about "Near Death in Vegas" - I was trying to capture the urgency and panic hence the feedback and grunge electric guitar ....

Awesome. Worst I had was first visit I had to NYC with my wife.
Half way up 5th Ave and full on hypo, had to sit down on a corner while she ran off to try and find something for me (I was an idiot and had nothing on me and we had been on country for only a couple hours)

Funniest thing was when I finally recovered and was walking again I understood why people had been looking at me funny. There was a homeless person around the corner then me if you were walking round that corner simply smiling and saying hello to people.

Back to music I wonder if someone could do something with all the various beeps and alarms from all the different kit we use, also some interesting clicks and stuff from pens etc... And what to do if you even start on some of the nonsense we utter when hypo and talking ****...

This is amazing! Am I ok to share it on my Facebook? You seem to have got the clarity yet confusion of a hypo perfectly!

Thanks, I love both Lou Reed and Pavment - it's bound to rub off on you. :)

'My reality is not like most' - how true is that!
I especially like that you are taking diabetes out of its usual medical setting where it is 'sanitised': pop a pill, inject, record your data, .....
Most of the time we have to deal with diabetes for its emotional impact, so you'd expect it to show up more in poetry, novels, music, paintings ...
Maybe Munch was having a hypo when he painted his scream! No, the history of diabetes is short!!
