Hi , i am 44 years old , 24 stone . recently type 2 , on tablets for high blood pressure and diabetes. Like all on here trying the high fat low carbs diet , going well over 1 1/2 stone lighter. My main concerns is chest pain and eyesight. I was sent to the hospital today for stress test , didn't go well , ran out of puff (breath) after 5 mins light headed etc. so didnt show much . My disappointment is more to do with the response , i am over weight i know that been that way for long time . But the only reason given im overweight ... no surprise.. i could of said that before i stood on the treadmill . But no explanation on the chest pain which wasnt there before .... so i am at loss ? do i push for more tests? my blood pressure is now 130/70 was 140/90 before the med's so i think i am doing well and my sugars started 22 now holding nicely at 5.4 to 6.3 ish .. with the occasional spike to 9 .. And was very happy with the weight loss so far. I was only diagnosed in Aug this year . But they showed no interest in that .. and kept asking the next time im at the diabetic nurse to say to them. even though i told them my first visit to diabetic nurse is next week .
So my question (sorry for the moan) , do i say to the diabetic nurse ? or GP to see if they can find cause to the chest pain? is the blood pressure good?

thanks for your forum great source of information

chest pain can come from stress... I am a stessfull person myself or used to be especially when young... it is very stressfull to get the diabetes diagnosis and it takes a lot of time and emotions to consume that fact .. both all the worry of "how ill am I right now" and "how will my future be affected ; will I even become an invalide/handicapped person" and "can I really manage this" "do I get support when i need it ? " and so on and so on...

most persons could need very much support from their families , and also from their friends.... but I am afraid that most don´t get as much support and understanding as they could actually use-

when under so much pressure emotionally and mentally it could be a reason to also develop physical stress too on the surroundings of the Heart which is like chest pain or could even feel like heart pain... but is usually not dangerous just very unpleasant and could feel scary too... I did suffer a lot from that when young , because of many reasons but one was another cronical illness hyperthyroidosis... and until told it was not dangerous it became even more frekvent and servere because of death-angest on top of all the other problems....

could it maybe be that your chest pain is due to the extreme stress that you are now experiencing ?

your blood presure is fine.. about perfect !

Edited by Mod to add that any chest pains need investigating as there are more possible causes than stress.

HI @AndyFi sounding like you're doing what's good for you. You're clearly a big unit and losing 1.5 stone through LCHF is a really good start with your BG's in much better shape.
The lack of interest is not uncommon, though always disappointing.
If they are not giving you anything you think is going to help you then I would suggest you take control and let them know what you hope to do in the next six months and use that as a target.
Have you had your eyes tested? Must say it is a worry for me each time I go... but so far they have been clear.
130/70 is better than 140/90 though you would probably like the 130 to be a bit lower.
Pain in chest. With you there. Have an enlarged heart with beats pretty irregularly sometimes... and an ache that comes and goes. Trying to get my GP interested is hard work. I'm not good with the statins, so we have some interesting discussions..
If you can manage some walking I sure it would help with the weight loss, which will be a good thing for the ticker. I try to do a 30 min a day... when my knees allow.

If they are not going to help, find some one who will. Let them know what you want from them and what you want to do.

Good luck and keep in touch.

There are a lot of different reasons for chest pain, and in your place I would want it properly investigated. As soon as possible.

I think it justifies a separate appointment with the doctor, unless you can't get one sooner than the nurse's appointment you already have booked.

Hope you get it sorted, and please come back and tell us how it goes?

Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS on your magnificent achievements with blood glucose and weight loss. WELL DONE!!! :D

Your blood pressure is fine but any chest pains should be investigated by your G.P. It is no good thinking that it might be stress as it might be a lot of things. Nobody here is qualified to make a diagnosis.
Better safe than sorry.
Please make an appointment and update us.

thanks all for your responses , i will let you know how i get on next week after talking to the diabetic nurse .

@hankjam , I have not had eye test yet , I was waiting for the diabetic clinic to "see" where i go from there . My chest comes and goes too, but thanks for the suggestion of setting a target . I might try that. Also my legs and back can't take a long walk.

The weight was my original target and was quite happy with my progress so far , as i get lighter it makes it easier to do a walk as you suggest . But I just didn't like the way they patronised , they should encourage progress. No one wants diabetes but it is here and i just need to deal with it . My GP is great in that way , he understands I'm overweight and i will have aches and pains just from my size , but like most when something is different in your health you know . But hard to convince others that the pain or symptom is out of the ordinary for me. And they wonder why people don't go to the doctor. Sorry, I am ranting again. Just frustrates me .
@Brunneria I might take up your suggestion and see if I get another appointment with the GP.
@catherinecherub I understand I can't take diagnose from here ... but the old saying misery looks company. But so much to take in since august , I have had a steep learning curve so far . That's one of the things i like here , that others seem to have the similar issues and what they did , which helps me point me in the right direction .

I let you know how i get on , thanks again for your help . best of luck to all .

Chest pains are always going to be a worry until you find out whats causing them .. at your stress test was you hooked up to a heart monitor ?
Do go back to your doctor and make him/her listen to you ..

Hi @AndyFi

I had chest pains several years back and had a ECG which turned out fine but I then went on to have a Echocardiogram and later in the week a Angiogram, luckily my heart and arteries were fine and it turned out to be musculoskeletal problem which was treated with a anti-inflammatory , if your not happy do push for these tests to be carried out. Best wishes.

Hi Andy see my comments on chest pains and |BP,
I have put it all on another thread but here it is again, remeber this is now PROVED and reported to Novo in the UK.
Right I have been battling this for 16 years, yet my father had it some 40 years ago and eventually Weymouth hospital put him on Porcine. Now, after many years of diabetic "specialists saying it is not the insulin", YES IT BLOODY WELL IS. I gave up having a jab and also eating and bliss no chest pains! What you may not be aware of is that your BP is going through the roof, get a machine and test it. However, after a brainstorm with a doctor started an antihystermine called Aerius or desloratydine. That stopped it; at first. After 9 years it came back, however I am now on Desloratydine 2 times a day. I have also contacted Novo. I have also discovered that in the EU no one wants to believe it, BUT in the US it is known and about 500 in 18000 have this problem both type 1 and 2 (I am type 2 so was my dad)
I have again contacted Novo and this time they have responded. So contact the supplier, Livemir is the same as far as chest pains go. I use Novo30Mix.
