ok here goes as per my last post I have had a large rise im my bg in the last week or so that has came about suddenly.
so on friday I phoned the practice nurse who phoned me back after speaking with so called diabetic doctor who said I need to tighten up my diet and excercise more.
well I have a relatively low carb diet and excercise alot.
today my reading have mainly stayed between 16 and 19 soI got an appointment with my gp this morning she just shrugged it off and said these levels dont matter
anyway she prescribed me a course of antibiotics and said that I must have an infection well thats new to me as I have nothing wrong with me that I know of and she didnt find anything either and im not keen to take antibiotics for nothing.
so a few hours after this appointment I phoned the practice manager of my gp surgery and asked could I have my appointment at the diabetic clinic brought forward and she gave me appointment for august she also gave me a 5 min emergency appointment for the so called diabetic doctor.
well when I got to the appointment I was called by a trainee doctor which I wasnt happy with I only went to the doctor to see this specific diabetic doctor.
well anyway I went onto tell the trainee how my levels had been high for nearly a week and asked could it be possible that I could be a type 1 as after all im only 28 and have normal cholestral 4.1 normal blood pressure and im only 1 stone overweight.
his response was absolutely not your too fat to be a type 1
he then sent me for a urine sample to be tested that showed sugar present but no key tones.
I asked could I have some metformin as im only diet controlled and he said he would go speak with the diabetic doctor .
the diabetic doc said I have good control as per my last HBA1C 5.9 and im not getting any meds

Re: how rude is your GP is so upset with the way I was treat

Hi Louise,
this is a very serious matter. It's bad enough that the doctor was insulting and unprofessional, but they are clearly neglecting your health.
Your last Hba1c result may be good but your levels have gone up recently and that needs treating. Levels of 16-19 are not good, your practice nurse is a fool. You doc is paying more attention to an out of date test result than your current state which obviously needs attention. As for prescribing anti-biotics for no reason...
I suggest you make a formal complaint against this surgery, if you haven't already; and find yourself a new GP practice-one that treats you with some respect would be a start. Contact your local PCT for a list of GPs and ask them how to go about making a complaint. Some PCTs will take details of a complaint over the phone, mine did.
As for your concerns over whether you could possibly be type-1, I really don't know. Your story shows the dangers of incompetent GPs being allowed to manage diabetes care when they clearly don't have a clue. It's something that's concerned me for many years; since a previous GP, who ran a diabetes clinic, asked me if I checked my own blood-sugar. I'm a type-1 on insulin and was pregnant at the time! You should be referred to a "specialist" at your local hospital, where you can be properly assessed and perhaps have the c-peptide test to check whether you are in fact type-1.
Stay angry and give your surgery a kick up the a***. At the very least they may learn some manners

I'd go and make a complaint to the practice manager, if you were in the waiting room and could hear their conversation so might other people possibly hear. I'd say their conduct was most unprofessional :x If you're concerned about you're levels is there a diabetic clinic at a local hospital you could phone for advice?

These people have done 5 or more years of training, and are presumably highly intelligent to get into such a competitive profession, how on earth can they be so incompetent? Your blood sugar levels are far too high. The doctor who said you are too fat to be type one is an ignorant idiot, you need to make a proper complaint about him, he isn't competent and could harm more people if left to practise. So could the doctor who said 19 blood sugar level was ok. They are gps, they can't be experts at everything, but if they don't know they should refer you to someone who does!

You might be type one, I'm horrified they haven't tested you to see if you are or not. You need different medication at least with levels that high.

Can you ring a proper diabetes clinic with a consultant, and ask them for help? You can't wait until your appointment in august with levels like that.

Awwe bless you!

How horrible, i am truly shocked and disgusted by the way you were treated.

i would definately complain! imagine who else they could be treating like that!

You went to them for advice and help and that's how they treat you.

I hope you don't let people like that get you down. i also hope you get to the bottom of your problems even if you have to go else where.

bless you

That's really bad and I suggest you write to the Practice Manager telling him that you overheard the conversation and that they both showed no understanding of your concerns over high BG's and should have been more professional.

If you are still watching your diet and exercising it is possible you have an infection of some kind even though you feel fine. One thing you learn with diabetes is that EVERYTHING can affect it and possibly the hot weather is also having an effect.

Best of luck but don't let the doctors get away with their rudeness.

Hi Louise

I would definitely complain as it sounds like you have been treated very badly by those doctors.

The 'diabetes GP' should be training the trainee to treat patients with respect and concern, rather than modelling behaviour that belittles the patient. They both need some serious retraining.

And all of the GPs should be taking the high blood sugars seriously and not going by an out-of-date blood test.

Perhaps you should send a link to this thread to the practice manager so they can see exactly why you are unhappy with your treatment and what responses you have had.

good luck

It is not your fault that you have diabetes, lots of people who are obese will have a pancreas that will keep on working no matter what they eat.
I have lost 4stone since diagnosis and was what many would class as a typical type 2 fat .
I have never been made to feel as though it was my fault by the doctor or the practice nurse and have only recived praise and encouragment from them, you should expect nothing less.
Do you have the Diabetes for beginners book from Diabetes UK take it and ask them to read the what care to expect section and the medication section which states only 20% manage on diet alone.
In fact I think they need to read all of it.
It must be so upsetting to be treated this way when you are trying hard to help yourself good luck.

How unproffessional and inappropriate, I would be kicking up a major fuss if i was treated like that. You have to stand up for yourself :!: you could always change doctor's surgery?

Good luck Louiseb
