Just wondering if anyone on this side of the world has found a reliable source of this.

I have awful neuropathy type pains and numbness on the inside of both my calves - docs agree it has nothing to do with my diabetes - instead its apparently from severe stenosis of the canal in my lower spine that the nerves travel through. Just co-incidental of course that it has only appeared since having spinal anaesthetic for my double knee replacement at the beginning of April.

I have started trying drugs from the GP - so far barely touching the edges and have been offered surgery - with only 70% success rate - and around $3000 out of pocket expenses on top of my health fund payments.

Having read about this product on here, I started checking online to get some to try - but Australian sellers or International ones that will ship here seem scarce.

Thanks in advance if anyone has any suggestions

@Tipetoo and @Indy51 - Thanks to you both for these - may have to do a bit more research as other threads on here talk about taking 600mg or more .

The Herbs of Gold one is probably worth investigating - unfortunately I'm still not allowed to drive after my surgery - so having to rely on not very dutiful daughter at the moment :( Maybe with Mothers Day tomorrow she might oblige!!

Have you had your vital statistics taken and panels taken to give you the proper snapshot of your cardiovascular system which is imperative to good overall health? Have you considered medicine for your microcirculation with each application only five minutes long? I was introduced to deoxyhemoglobin vasodilator. It doubles and triples your SP02 (blood oxygenation% levels) with each application which takes five minutes. Check out their YouTube videos.

Thanks @Kristin251 - they say they ship to Australia and give a price for delivery by DHL - but got to the end of the order procedure and the website just locked up.

Will have a look locally - but again maybe I need to do more research - if you were good on only 100mg tablets not sure why I've read that 600mg is normally needed for neuropathy - with a maximum of 1200mg per day

Back to the drawing board perhaps!!!

I quite often order stuff online from iherb.com - but the delivery takes up to about 2 weeks to Australia.

Sorry, meant to say 100 mg 3-4x a day. Bf, mid morning , lunch and late afternoon. I had the same thing happen yesterday when ordering more so I called them. Keep trying if you want. They make high quality supplements and have great prices. The r does seem to be better even if taking double the mixed. On their site you have to search ' r fraction alpha lipoic' I ordered some 50 mg as some days the 100 gives me too much energy. I mix it up

Hi Sue hope you get this sorted. I just received my first shipment of this stuff today and its 300mg per tablet, I do think that we are all individuals and so a dose of anything for one person may not have the same effects on another. If i were you i'd start out on the lower dose and see how you go, then increase as needed that what i'm going to do.

Thanks for clarifying @Kristin251 and of course valid points @Johnjoe13 - I'll keep on with the research and source some from the varied suggestions.
Have an appointment with a Doctor specialising in "Pain Medicine" tomorrow afternoon so will also listen to his thoughts - I know my GP said that there are at least 4 more levels of medication available for this type of pain - but would certainly prefer a more natural treatment if it worked.

I'm in the UK but buy mine from pipingrock.com in us. Delivery has been reliable and 300mg r-ala seems effective at 600mg a day. Imagine they ship worldwide......

Further to this has anybody noticed any side effects regarding urine? Not a pleasant discussion I know but I've noticed a rather awful smell when I wee after taking this stuff and i'd only taken it once when I noticed, its a similar smell to the one you get after eating a lot of asparagus, it smells like i'm peeing pure ammonia

Lol. My daughter asked me the same thing!! I'm not noticing but I do eat asparagus almost everyday. Some days it's not as 'pure ' as others but everyday is different. I wouldn't worry about it. Sometimes I do get a little reflux but feel so many other positive things I'll push through until I find I have become symptom free and then I'll look for an miantence dose. For now 3-4 100mg r ala is making me feel so much better. Slight reflux isn't bothering me.

Bulk Nutrients - takes a couple of days, low postage costs, and also have the correct enantiomer/version of alpha lipoic acid. I think they are based in Tasmania.

Thanks for that - looks good.

@Johnjoe13 and @Kristin251 - ha ha - I've had so many drugs pumped into me since my double knee replacement, that I've just about forgotten what normal unadulterated pee smells like!!!! This is something else to look out for I guess.

I was quite impressed that the Specialist Pain Management doctor I saw yesterday didn't immediately poo poo this stuff. He was aware of it's popularity in Germany and has other patients locally using it - he was even able to tell me where I could buy it over the counter in a nearby suburb!!!

As another indication of how different we all are though, he said that in his experience, people have very mixed results from it - but encouraged me to try it to see if I was someone it would work for.

His feeling was that the stenosis in my spinal canal that the nerves run through has little if nothing to do with this problem - instead it's as a result of damage to the nerves themselves in the legs from the surgery - maybe from the tourniquets they use, or perhaps them being damaged when moved around during the pretty brutal surgery, or still being squashed from the residual swelling around the knee.

Will have to wait and see if time, some prescription drugs and this stuff will help - but happy to try anything before spinal surgery!!

Thanks again to everyone for their input

my husband is newly diagnosed with T2 (at least we think that is what it is-still waiting for appointment at clinic but has high blood glucose levels) his GP said that his shooting/itching/stabbing pains with on and off numbness could be neuropathy. He takes Alpha Lipoic Acid 600mg daily and it is helping ease the pain. I buy it from this place www.naturesbest.co.uk I think they would ship to Australia, they won't send to Norway ( for some reason) but otherwise looks worldwide. Good luck x
